Default Best fit for big guys

Hi,

Age 36, 6' 8" tall 245 lbs. Want a roomy, comfortable, sporty ATV that will haul my clydesdale body around. Fit is of utmost importance. If I am not comfortable, no matter how sweet the bike, I know I won't have fun. I live in Central Oregon. High desert. Wide open spaces, fireroads, dunes, etc.

I never have been a wrench or mod guy. So it must be capable and reliable in stock trim.

Getting back into ATV's after almost 18 year layoff. A lot has changed and I have a lot to learn. In my youth I had a Yamaha 200 3 wheeler then a Honda TRX 250 4 wheeler. Both were utility models with racks front and rear. As my skills improved I wished for more power and sportiness. I never did utilize the racks and utility features. Always rode like a sport bike. I always enjoyed blasting fireroads, jeep trails and powersliding the most!

Appreciate any input you have,

Geoff

I'd look at some of the large bores, depending on whether you are wanting 4x4 or not, 4x4 models would be sportsman 700/600, grizzly 660, prarie 650, traxter or quest, maybe an artic cat 500I, p650 has a solid axle, so berm busting is a definite possibility, the others are independent suspension, but this is in the utility class..most of these have a long wheelbase,

2wd is a diffrent story, kfx 700, ds 650, raptor..Id start there.. I'm 6'4" better than 245 lbs, and need 4x4, the 650 has PLENTY of room for me. the only reason I say this is a large bore is on a larger (longer frame) try them out and see what suits you the best..

Blaster would be perfect!

I was gonna say like above a p650 or take a look at the arctic cats and the grizzly
I dunno how good you do on the sports quads. Seen 200 pound guys on raptors going up hills (sand) it got them up but ya know what I mean. Not like just flying up with 120 pound guy on it. I could be wrong but, dunno for sure. Im not 6 feet 8 and 245 pounds. Guess I would just try a few utlitys out if your looking for a utlity or try a few sports ones out if your looking for that.

Wide open spaces, dunes, and fast firetrail roads? That doesn't sound like 4x4 utility riding....

I'm 240, and 6', and am really loving my new Polaris Predator 500. The suspension handles big jumps for us bigger guys with ease, where as I'd bottom out or feel tippy on a Raptor or Warrior. The preddy comes off a jump like you're landing in soft pillows. Gobs of power to spare too. Handling is surpurb.

I've got no experience riding them, but the DS650 comes to mind too, although the width of the thing will limit riding on narrower trails.

V-Force, DS 650 and the Scramblers are all very comfortable for tall guys over 200 lbs.

Hello to all,

Thanks for all input. It did help. I signed papers yesterday afternooon on a 04 Lime Green V-Force 700. The finance person called in sick so I can't pick it up until Tuesday (Torture...Arrrrrgggg !). It is clearly way more machine than I need but I went for ergonomics first and everything else second. The position on the bike is the best I could find for comfort in the marketplace. There was a definite difference between it and the Prairie and boy when you crank the motor over on the V-Force the exhaust note just growls !

Thanks again,

Geoff
