I'm going to get one of these quads with-in a month and would like to know what are some of the out the door prices that you have been paying for these quads. Which of these 2 yamahas are the best, I think that the 400 is about 1000 bucks cheaper. If any of you can help with these OTD prices I will be greatful.

thanks,

Got a fair price, not the one I wanted, but I couldn't/wouldn't wait any longer. Paid $6150 complete with tax, title, license, plus they threw in the $200 back box for free. So, that was literally out the door!

I bought a '03 Kodiak 450 in February. Local dealer gave me an out the door price of $5500. Told him to keep the "free accessories" and did my research before I went. Found an advertised price of $4995 at Chicago Cycle Sales which is about a 4 hour drive South for me, but worth it to save a grand. Turned out that if I woulda bought it in Chicago, by the time I paid their B.S. fees and then came back to MI and paid State sales tax so I could get a title, I would've paid more like $5700. (Didn't tell my dealer that part <wink&gt.

The machine is pretty good. Seriously looked at the Polaris Sportsman, Suzuki, and Kodiak 400. Grizzly 660 was out of my price range. Liked the liquid cooling on the Yamahas. Bought the 450 because Yamaha stripped all the good stuff off the '02 Kodiak 400, lowered the price for '03, and introduced the 450 with all the good stuff on it instead. 400 has front disc and rear drum brakes/450 has disc front and rear. Both have 2WD/4WD with differential lock, but 450 also has High and Low gear (400 doesn't have Low option). Standard guages on 400, digital readout on 450. Not a whole lot more CC's on the 450 but Yamaha boasts a 20% gain in power.

I know you don't have to worry too much about this in McMinnville (just moved from Hendersonville, TN 8 months ago) but I was extremely impressed on how the machine handled in the snow and on the ice while ice fishing. Nearly zero slippage on smooth ice in 4WD Low and only got buried in the snow when I hit knee-high drifts. Electric start fired right up at -20 degrees and has a recoil backup if it ever doesn't. Lots of torque and snappy when you need it. I go 6'-1"/260 lbs and it hauls me over 50 mph down a straight road in 2WD High. I bit the bullet and spent a few bucks more for the 450, but am glad I did. Good luck!

I bought my 03 450 Kodiak in Sept. 2002. I payed $5600 +$69 for the plow promotional deal + WI registation and taxes $6012 OTD. Of course taxes and registration fees vary state to state. I recomend the 450, low range, digital dash, diffierential lock, and slightly bigger engine, worth the extra $$.

Good Luck
