Spark Arrester Screen - Huge Difference
#1
I had been running with my ProCircuit slip on with a spark arrestor screen and I was running a 147.5 main and it seemed a little fat but the 145 was lean (nothing in between) so, after last trip I pulled out the spark arrestor screen and thought that may allow me to split the difference. Well, after most of a day of riding I was pulling my 4th or 5th climb up the steepest longest hill at Sand Mt. when all of a sudden the yellow pig died (and this one didn't sound good). I got it turned around and coasted to the bottom of the hill. I tried using the compression to start it on the way down but, all it sounded like was an air pump. Got off and looked around the quad. Found my inside plug looking right at me. Apparently the plug shot out the head (looks like it wasn't in all the way.)
The thing was white as a new one. Got a new one in and got back to camp. I jetted up two jet sizes and checked the plug after a couple runs. . . still white. I jetted back down and put the spark arrestor scren back in. I don't have jets large enough to run without the screen.
I am going to get some jets and needles and take my quad to the dyno and tune it that way. I also want to tune some of the flat spots out.
Does anyone run the ProCircuit without the screen? What kind of jetting on the TM45? (I will jet for 4000'.)
If the screen blocks that much flow, I want it out. I only ride the sand anyways so, don't need to worry about sparks.

I stuck the spark arrestor in my graydon when i went to oregon dunes(sea level) and it felt like i had the same amount of power as i did at 4000ft which means i did lose a few hp probably. I took it back out. The 45mm i just put on had a 150 in it. when u said 2 sizes bigger, what was your biggest size? I still have my airbox so i think i might be ok with a 150, my plug was light brown after taking it for a 5 mile ride around my house and no burbling? if you need jets, get them from www.sudco.com They are the cheapest i have found. I want to order a couple bigger because i have a carbmount filter and want to put it on once up at the mtn to see the difference. Hope i helped, lol. Sean

dune me i live at about 3800 ft and i have the graydon full pipe with the spark or supertrap on the end i'm at 160 main it works well there maybe a little fat but it also works good at sea level i know i could fine tune it better but it works so well i hate to mess with it no bottom lug maybe this isn't giving me the most power but it is a great ride, and i ran two other stage two's this last weekend an was a quad to two 1/2 ahead,so it seems to work good, it was the 690 raptors that i had a hard time with but hey they missed enough shifts to make it good.

Oh, one more thing. . .
I checked the outer plug and it was a little too light tan - I would have jetted up once and called it good but, then I decided to check the inner plug and it was White (this was after jetting up two jets with the screen out.)
I think I will get a few jets and needles and take it to the dyno. I think I will go with a 160 main and see what it does.
Power is awesome. I only lost to one four stroke all weekend (a 760 )

My God man are you insane? What were you thinking running that thing with a 145 Main?! Right now I can tell you I have the same Pro-circuit pipe that you do and I have ran it with and with out the screen and it doesn't change the jetting at all. Ron Woods send the 45mm out with a 150 which is perfect for all elevation below 4000 ft., that is if you don't have a high comprssion piston and Head work. You need to at least run 152.5 is the leanest you should run yours. I would start out with the 160 and run it for a while. Clean the exhaust outlet on the pipe really clean and run your bike for a good couple of hours and check the color of the pipe outlet. It should be a medium Gray color. Not Black and not light gray. Four stroke's never show true jetting on the plug! You have to check it ont the electrode not the porcelin. Try out that 160 and let me know how it turns out. I bet you will end up running with a 157.5 in the long run.

Spoke with Ron Wood last week and told him I had a 680 (102mm Bore) He said with that set-up I would need to jet down from the 150 (since more velocity through the carb = more venturi on the jet) (Does this make sense?)
I think at 4000' I am not too far on jetting.
I asked about reading the plugs and they said with the fuels today you aren't going to see much or any build-up on the plug.
I have some jets coming and will try to get on the dyno before the next trip.
I'll post what I find out so anyone else with a 102mm piston will have a good starting point.
Angry: Check your jetting with the new kit. Sounds like you will need to jet down. Let me know what you find. You may want to dyno tune yours too just to make sure you aren't having any issues.

he said to jet down? seems i've always been told to jet up when you increase the flow as with a larger bore, i gues i'll be interested to see how the dyno sees it. i know i'm running the 160 in my tm45 which is larger than they say seems 150 but i don't suffer that low throttle bog, and i haven't been runnig a fan since it went out, so the extra fuel seems to help the engine with the heat.

I have the 11:1. Got it and the cylinder from Team Pami. It was one of their garage sale items (looked new to me.) I think I paid about $650 after freight, exchange rates, wire fees, teriffs, gaskets, gasgasinch, etc.
I didn't have to send my cylinder in since I bought it this way from them so, I still have my stock cylinder (can't immagine going back now.)
Sounds like things are looking up for your kit. I am sure you will get more power than me once you get it dialed in.
