Default Scrambler 500 4x4 Sand Tires

My Father-in-law rides a Scrambler 500 and is looking into paddle tires for it. My question is, should he go for paddles all the way around and make use of the 4x4 or just go with paddles in the rear.
Any sugestion would be appreciated.

Thanks

Paddles on rear only and use stock tires on front. Otherwise the ride is rough.

What size tire should he run in the rear? Does it have to maintain the 1" difference in height?

Maybe it was my bad luck, but I put sand paddles on 02 Scrambler 500 4x4, and it fried my transmission belt. Everytime I gunned the engine, the front end started shaking pretty bad. The hook up from the paddles wasn't all that different, I think, from stock tires. I didn't like them. Just my 2¢.

I wouldn't put paddles all around, it would be way to hard to handle with the "real" 4-wheel drive. Riding in the sand, he's going to pull a front wheel off the ground from time to time and it's going to send him for a loop!!! It shouldn't matter what size he puts on the back, just so he doesn't put it in 4-wheel drive. I"m sure he's not going to go mudding with the paddles still on it.

i saw a 4x4 with paddles on the front last year it was something to see. the problem i saw as i watched was there wasn't enough front fender sand was going every where on take off. i don't think it helped either, seems tire spin is more inportant.

Thanks for the replys guys.

Because of what you guys have said it sounds like paddles all around are not such a good idea, they would cause such a rough ride and be difficult to steer with the "true 4x4". Do you think paddles in the rear only running in 2x4 will run any better that stock tires running 4x4? Im just wondering if there is any advantage to paddles on this 4x4.

Oh I think the paddles on the back with stock fronts would do wonders compared to stock front and rear.
