Yes, starting with the 1987 models, zuki put a 6 speed gear box. You could have one of a few things wrong here.

1 bike may not be the year you think it is
2. Previous owner swapped trannys for whatever reason
3. busted tranny that somehow works fine in only 5 of 6 gears.

Either way you slice it, something is definately wrong.

Yep, what maddog said. the '85 and '86 models were 5 speeds and '97 - '92 are six. Make sure you do have an '87. Is the motor blue or gray? Also, look on the cylinder to see if the reeds are at the base ('85-'86) or external ('87-'92).

The reed cage is external too . and another thing is that the gear ratios feel normal but i cant help but believe all of yous because yous know what year had how many gears.

If the reed cage is external and its a lt250 then you are definitely missing a gear. Are you positive its a lt250? The lt500 is also a Quadracer. It has 5speeeds on all models.

Good point TomM, I didn't think of that, I instantly assumed he was talking about a 250.

Very good point. Is the quad powerful beyond all reason and sensibility? If it is, then its a zilla, and 5 speeds are ok.

His front sprocket size got my attention. 15 teeth would be big for an lt250 with the listed mods. He would probably hit 88mph but his holeshot would really suck. On an lt500 however a 15 tooth sprocket would be very reasonable even if it was all stock.
