Default Number of grease fittings ?

I have a 2001 Sportsman 500 HO. Does any one know the number of grease fitting I have to grease on a routine bases? If I knew the number I could keep count at grease time and I would know when I miss one. I have generic manual and it is not specific. Thanks

I think it's seventeen zerks, off the top of my head. Six on each rear A-arm, one on the main drive shaft U-joint, one each on the two U-joints on the front axles, and one each on the front A-arms. If I'm missing any please let me know.

The number of fittings varies alot from model to model and year to year. The newer the less from what I have seen.

Tell me about it. The new 600/700 series have 3. May be good, may be bad, time will tell.

Default Number of grease fittings ?

Hey,

I have a 2002 Yellow Sp500 HO,

I count 21 grease nipples(fittings). I greased mine yesterday after some serious mudding (yuck, spring ) and I counted 21.

I have 12 in the rear --> 3 in the wheel hub area (3 on lower a-arm, and one hidden in the disc brake area and hard to get to) 2 on upper a-arm; per side.

I have 6 in the front suspension --> 1 next to the disc brake area (easy to see and grease), 1 on a-arm, and 1 on Front wheel drive shaft; per side.

I count 3 on the main prop shaft --> All 3 are U-Joints and the shaft has to be turned just the right way for the nipple to be reachable.

My manual says I should have one on my upper steering post bushing?? I've yet to find that one...and I don't seem to find anything resembling the illustration in my manual.

Hope this helps

I count the same as Tyrespinner plus two more (front axle u-joints) for a total of 23. I've searched high and low but can't find a grease fitting anywhere on the steering stem.

The Polaris manual is no help, it's the worst I've ever seen. Even worse than the manuals we used to get with Japanese motorcycles years ago written by someone with limited English. No excuse for how bad the Polaris manuals are.

Like ncscrambler says, their are 24 fittings on the 01' sp500. 19 of the fittings take the all season grease (purple) and the other 5 fittings on the drive shaft and u-joints take the black U-joint grease.
