Default DUNE RIDING

Had a few questions about riding in the sand. I went to Little Sahara last weekend. I have a tb250 with a RCR stage one kit. My problem is getting around in the loose sand. Even at top speed by the time I get to the top of the hill I've lost too much momentum I end up stopping. I think the spring I got with the kit is the plain one. would a HPD aggressive clutch kit help? Should I put a smaller front sprocket on? I do have paddle tires. Are v-paddles better than straight?
Another problem I was noticing is it seems to pull hard when its cold, but seems to loose power when the motor gets hot. Could this be a compression problem?

I have noticed the same problem with it getting hot. It totally loses power. Straight paddles will go better up hills and v-paddles are more for playing in bowls and turning easily. I would go with the straight paddles personally. I have also heard that dune front tires help alot. I am not sure about the clutch kit, but call HPD and ask them if it should help.

Something is really wrong with your quads!! The 250TB we had with a HPD pipe and clutch with paddles would out run the 400 Scrambler running stock tires, and neither had any problems getting up those sand piles, not dunes, they are to little.
My 650P goes up any sand pile at Little Sahara in OK. in reverse, any of them.
Your quads must be jetted wrong, or clutched wrong, or both. A 250TB with stock tires and stock clutch has very little problems getting up those piles in OK. Matter of fact, 3 weeks ago at Little Sahara my stock 400 Scrambler with stock tires will go up any hill there by starting at very bottom from a dead start. Stock 250's blast right up with a little run at them.
Next time try your stock clutch, any dial in the jetting!!!!!!!!!!
Good Luck.....

My all stock Scrambler 500 4x4 would go up anything out there easily in 2wd. Starting right at the bottom with no momentum usually required 4wd. I went with stock tires not even on backwards. Gotta love that 500 HO, never low on power.

I had the same prob with my 02 t.b. with the hsp speed kit, when cold it ran wicked quick, but when warm on any little bit of a hill, i couldnt get it up on the pipe and it would just bog. pulled the spark plug, and found it running way to rich, i played with the mixture on the next couple of rides, and that helped. then bought a pack of the uni filtered air box vents, drilled four holes in air box (started with one and added one after each check of the plug), found a good balance, and now the like funs awesome.
did you have someone put the kit on for you, i did, and the dude at the perf. shop told me for liability issues they usually set them up pretty fat.
i would suggest doing a spark plug chop test and see where you stand, ive been there and if i can help just let me know.
the rcr stage 1 doesnt come with a clutch kit???????

just my thoughts

Prairietwin, I am talking if I ride it hard all day it does this. I am riding in hot conditions at the dunes. I usually play around at Sand Mountain, UT which is 700 ft. tall and pretty steep also. I am sorry, but no stock TrailBlazer 250 is going to make it up.

Maybe those little ones. My wife's 01 Scrambler with the HPD trail pipe and proper clutching and jetting with paddles would not make it up one of the big hills on the very back north side from a standstill. It would only go about 2/3 way up before pulling down. Now after I ported it and added the pump gas cool head it is a different story. We were on the back side of one particular hill and didnt have room to get a running start at it, just gas it and go. That's when I found my race mod would beat other modded bikes up that was the same as me in straight line racing. You cant beat an auto for hill climbing. Sounds like those TB's are on the fat side with the jetting. And a complete clutch kit will help over just a primary spring change.Bubba

TB2000, did you get to see us racing my alky bike that weekend? We were there on Friday and Sat the 28th and 29th.

Bubba297 I wasn't there that weekend. I went the 5th. There weren't very many people racing when I went.

I went to Glamis in March of '02 and climbed everything I tried. There's one particular wall (china) that is very steep and tall and I could make it all the way up with a Hpd pipe and Fmf tcII silencer. I didn't fly up it but I did make it. I have just recently had RcR port my cylinder, machine my head and bore my carb and now the power is WOW. I'm still breaking it in so I haven't had it at the dunes yet but hope to put in enough seat time through the week to get an acumulative of 3 tanks done before I put on the paddles. When I do a top end rebuild on my wife's quad, her cylinder will be at your door bubba297. I was going to send you mine but got to talking to Rick about the head machining and just decided to go with him: man but he's a nice guy. Later all, Shawn.

Blazer 250, put a 30 lb rider on and it will !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Thought you were talking about Wyanoka OK. Little Sahara Dunes.

Anyway I went up OLDSMOBILE HILL in CA. in reverse on my 650 Prairie.

The 19 yr old kids could climb China Wall but the Adults had a hard time.

Rejet your 250, it should run Better when warmed up. Sounds like its to fat on the main jet, and where's the needle. Try more air like Duneaholic said, then fine tune!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
