I am looking for an atv about 400cc's and 3,000 dollars probably 98-2000. I live in MN so I need one that will go through snow, mud, and will pull a large boat.
would you recomend 4wd. do sportsman 400s come with a switch to go between 4 wheel drive and 2 wheel drive.
I was looking at a polaris sportsman 400 I was wondering if that would be good.
and also does the polaris have a manual or auto transmission. How is it affected in water.

Hello and welcome aboard.
Judging by what you will be using the atv for 4x4 would be a good idea. The sportman to the best of my knowledge has selectable 2-4wd. The ride quality is without a doubt the best I've ever driven. Correct me if I'm wrong but I believe the Sportman is Automatic. I haven't had the chance to test it in the water so I really can't answer that one.
