My cousin is going to buy a dirt bike and doesnt know which one to get. He is 5'4 and still growing and only 15. What would be a good one to get? 4 stroke or 2 stroke?
Thanks

I suggest the TT-R125-E, I think this would be the perfect learners bike for a real beginner and probably even a good intermediate beginner. It has enough power to get him where he wants to go but it isnt going to let him get out of control. Its a real good bike. Also, it is a 4strk so it has smooth power transfers and easy handling. Being a 4strk it is very predictable and low maintenance. Lastly, it should be able to grow with him, at 5'4 you may want to drop the suspension but as he grows, you can raise it back up. With an 80 or 90 CC bike, you are very limited on the overall seat height, which on a bike is important.

I started off on a honda XR200 which was a great learning bike, a bit heavier then they are today so the xtra displacement helped. After that I jumped on my YZ and felt right at home. The new found power of of a 250 2strk was a great experience but having that 4strk to learn on allowed me to ride for fun and not just holding on for the ride. Personally, I just wouldn't buy another honda, if they make them still, you could look into the XR which is honda's equivilent.

here is the info on the bike

if he needs somthing just a touch bigger then look at the tt225, which is another great bike. This is the one I wish I bought...

NEways, I really think the tt125 would be more than enough... its a good, strong, fun bike.

I also had a XR200 years back and if your just starting off a good bike would be Honda's 4 stroke CRF230F. It looks like an improved version of the older XR200 and the CRF230F even has electric start.

I would check out www.honda.com and look at there dirtbikes.

If you like 2 strokes the Kawasaki KDX200 is a good buy but at 5'4 he will have a problem right now getting on the machine because it sits so high.

Is a 125 two stroke to big? Hes still growing. How much can you lower the seat with the stock suspension?

i started off on an old 400cc 2-stroke. i had zero expierence on a manual clutch, but had ridden other stuff before. i learned quick on how to handle the power. and i wouldnt go anything less than a XR200. ive ridden the TT-R225, and i cant even stand it. id go with the XR over that any day. but if i had to choose a 4-stroke bike, to begin on, it probably would have been a XR250. very good bike. it has greaaat power, and is cheap enough, and can get you around anywhere else, everything else can.

They don't make a 125cc two stroke dirtbike anymore. They make 125cc motocross bikes but I don't think that is very good to start off with. Then like I said before at 5'4 he won't be able to touch the ground.

I would agree with iamchad2k5 the Honda XR250 would be a good dirtbike but the two stroke KDX200 will out run it very easily. The power of the KDX200 compares more to the XR400.

The above mentioned bikes will cost more than the CRF230F which is priced at $3,300.

You didn't say how much you wanted to spend.

oh yeah. forgot about the KDX's. another series of greaat trail bikes. 2-strokes for sure. my friend is id say a good 6' tall, and he rode a KDX220 pretty good. im thinking thats a little bigger though? i dunno, it went pretty good. wasnt meant for all out speed like the CR's, RM's, YZ's, KX's. but yes, id say either KDX200, or XR250. both have lights, both run great. id say its your choice if you like 2-stroke or 4-stroke better.

That bike looks sweet and it even has electric start. I might have to say if you can pony up the money that would be the one I might pick for the 4 stroke dirtbike. Thats no starter bike though.
