Yet another jetting Q
#1
I ran my Raptor today with 180/185 mains and a plug check showed a little bit of white which of course means I'm a hair lean. I'm thinking of bumping up to 190/195 and check again. The quad pulled strong and whooped up on a CPI (in frame type) piped Shee. It does however feel a bit weak off the bottom and I expect a slight loss there from the hotcam stage 2 but would a needle adjustment help there on takeoff? I was also flat stomped by another banshee that the owner wouldnt discuss and I'm wondering if a mere jetting change could make that significant a difference to close the gap a bit I'd say he had me by 5mph top speed and pulled a good 3-4 quad lengths in 300 or so yards. My mods are ported head, JE 12:1 102mm and hotcams stage 2 w springs. I wonder if the 190/195 will be too much or not enough? I am running 25 pilots and needles on the fourth clip from the top. Of couse I failed to mention these drags were on flat hard sand and the shee that killed me the rider easily weighed 80-100lbs less than me but I dont think that would account for all the difference. Fuel was 50/50 of Unocal 110 and texaco 92.

With all of the detergents in the gasoline it is virtually impossible to perform a plug check. Buy a Racepak EGT gauge and you will be right on with your jetting each time - and even though it is a bit pricey, with all of the money we have spent on engine mods, it is well worth it.

I don' know dude. All you can do is jet up and see if your top end gets better or worse. If it gets worse then try jetting down. If it gets worse go back to where you were. Then you have to do the needles.

The easiest way to get a more top end speed is to change your front sprocket (more teeth) or your back sprocket (less teeth). You will lose a little torque though.

Top speed and sprockets arent really the issue here. There is a definite jetting issue I'm just concerned with what changes to make. Will the needle have an effect on my initial takeoff? How much higher should I try on the mains? Is there really alot more power to be had from getting it all dialed in correctly?
