Default 800cc twin in a 99 Sport chassis?

How hard do you think it would be to put a 800cc twin in a 99 Sport chassis? Are the clutches interchangeable or would I need the drive clutch off the snowmobile? I was wondering if the belts are the same (size/width). Where could I get a pipe for it? Anyone custom making them? I wonder what a custom pipe would run...$$$? Hot seat offers a big bore kit for the 800 twin that displaces it to 925, the down side is the price...$3999. I just bought a 99 Sport 400 for $1000 and wanted to do a big bore race mod on it but im starting to think BIGGER! I found a 800 twin for $1300....and I could sell the 400 motor for about $500 on ebay, so I'd still be way cheaper then what a 99 Sport 400 is normally selling for. Just gotta figure out if it's doable and how much the custom work will cost. Anyone have any ideas? Any web pages that deal with this kind of stuff so I can get an idea on what's involved?

I would like to see that configuration run! Isn't the 800 at over 100hp stock anyway? ATV Racing in Phoenix puts the 800 in their Tazcar buggy. I've seen that thing run and it's a monster. The only problem I could think of is cooling. They had quite a large radiator on that thing. I'd be interested in your progress if you attempt the install!

The snowmobile clutches are an inch or two larger in diameter and the belt is also wider. You would probably have to use the 800 clutches, but the atv clutches may be strong enough to power it. I am unsure if the shafts are the same size though and if they are interchangeable. Visit SLP's snowmobile performance website, as they have alot of info on the clutches.

when you put a snowmobile engien into a atv it is hard. 1. the polaris snowmobile engien is bilt to run from -25 degrees to +37. 2 the snowmobile clutch engages at a much higher rpm, my 74 tx ingages at 4500 and my friends 97 indi ingages at 5500rpm

Im not taking on this project anymore. I never even got my ATV, I went down to pick it up from the shippers after they told me to come get it and when I got all the way down there they couldn't find it. They shipped it off to some other place! When they found it and got it back to Sacramento they told me to drive down and pick it up again and I told them I wasn't gonna drive 7 hours and spend another $45 in gas for their mistake. I told them to ship it to my house and they wont do that. If you ever have to have something shipped do not deal with "forward air"! That company SUCKS! They are hella rude and don't care about the costumer at all. It's goin on two weeks and they still wont deal with me. I guess it's time to call up Discover and contest the charges on my credit card or see a lawyer.

I bought my scram on ebay and had it shipped through Forward Air. I got it in two days without any problems. However, the crate was a little damaged, but the quad was fine. I do agree with you, they were rude people when I picked it up. Acted almost like me being there picking up my package was getting in their way and bothering them.
