Stock DS...Wheelies??
#1
Hey,
I'm looking at a used DS. I have tried it on pavement only, (in front of the owner), It didn't seem to want to lift up. Gunned it on 2nd without tugging and it didn't lift. I like to have the ability to do technical wheelies(for obstacles, water holes, etc.) and fun wheelies (long distance wheeliage).
This seems to be the only thing that's bothering me about the DS(other than it's weight and getting stuck in the snow).
Anyone have movies of DS wheelies? Preferably a minimal-modded or stock DS.
Thanks
Jeff

with the long travel suspension it sucks a lot of the thrust to lift the front try stiffing the rear spring, plus a 15 tooth front, a 14 will really help with that i can just gas it to bring the front up. the other factor is practice, a little clutch action will do wonders, pull in the clutch and rev a little and let out the clutch it will get light. my wife is getting to were she can ride them. the balance point on them is a little uncomfortable at first, but once you gat it is nice. i can wheelie with the honda and the raptor, actually you don't see many going real far, the problem i get now is on the long ones it drifts to the chain side.

I can wheelie mine in gears one and two no problem on dirt, and it's stock. Third gear is also possible with the little clutch trick described above. That's all in a normal seated position, no foot in the grab bar. Once you find the balance point (it feels pretty far back) it's possible to keep it up for a long time. Last time I was out I was riding wheelies as long as the straight beach would allow, and it doesn't take long to cover a lot of ground in third. Be sure you know where the rear brake is before the front end comes up.

I like wheeling my ds better then my raptor. it comes up harder but its easer to keep up. I done 1/3 of a mile wheels sitting and standing on the seat. in 2nd gear with 22in tires I can sit on my handle bars and rip a wheelie. I weight 160 hope this helps your decesion to join the ds family.

If you know how to ride wheelies well then you should have no problem at all. I weigh 290lbs and can wheelie in 3rd gear, just gotta give it a little clutch. Dont be scared man just punch it!!

Cool guys,
Thanks for the replies.
And BartlettRacing, i see on your pics that the balanche point is way way back (scary stuff).
I'll master it.
I also found another used DS. Except this one is in perfect condition and loaded with mods, for about 500$ more than the other one.
Gonna try to pick it up before someone else can! Whhooooo.
