Ok, I know that you guys are good at this battery stuff. I also know that this has been gone over a million times....but apparently I'm retarded and I'm not sure if I have a "real" problem or not. Here goes- I have a '02 Baja. Lately (since mid Feb.) it has been a **** to start. It will turn over maybe twice if your lucky, then it will make the little clicking noise. It had the black Yuasa battery. I went and bought a new battery (black Yuasa), and charged it like the box said. Lo and behold.....it did the same thing. Once its warm, it'll fire right up. So...I put my meter on the battery terminals while running. Here is what I got.
Lights off.....Idle- 14.69v.....3500rpm-14.73 Lights on (all 3).....Idle- started at 12.9 then kept creeping lower (slowly).......3500rpm- 14.52.
So, do I have a problem ? Are these readings ok ? If this #*%$&^ @ battery goes dead again.....I'm gonna sacrifice this machine to the gods !!!!!! Thanks for any help.

I am having some of the same problems myself!! On mine with the battery charged up I can ride only for about a half hour with the lights on high untill the battery is dead. WTF!!! I honestly think it is the battery because it is the same one it came with 3 years ago, plus it seems to work on DRY WARM days. But on cold damp days like today by me it will only stay charged for a little while. I am going to get a new battery and try it.

Hey i got the very same problem on my 00 Ds. WTF is right. I want some answers and anyone else who has this problem please speak up. My battery will go dead in 3 hours with the lights off . it really sucks. I have replaced the battery twice and even the ground cable. also i checked with a volt meter and everything seemed fine like the battery was getting charged. i just dont know.

Im not sure about this. But here goes anyway. It may be the rectifier(voltage regulator). If they go bad I think that will drain the battery. Do a search. I think I remember reading that someone had said this. I don't know how you can check the rectifier to see if they are working properly or not. Maybe someone else knows.

Same problem here. On my second battery since august('03 baja),started unhooking battery cable just in case something was drawing it down over time . Left it off for 4 days without trying it, hooked on cable , went to start it and the battery rolled it over two times and then the usual clicking.Charged it for an hour or so and it started fine.

I am really terrible when it comes to electronic stuff. But I guess the first things I would consider would be either the recifier, fuse holder, or maybe even the starter is going bad. Have you had them over the motor in water recently?

I have only had my 03 Baja for a month with no problems (yet).

It seems by your posts that everyone has alreeady eliminated the battery as the problem. I would guess that your issues lie some where else.

How many of you have added any mods or accessoeries to your machines around the time your problems started?

Keep us posted on your findings.

I'm thinking mine is the battery (hopefully) because it has the same battery it came with 3 years ago. I hope.....

I don't mean this in a bad way.....but I'm glad I'm not the only one in this boat. So.....did anyone see my original post and look at my voltage readings ? Are they ok ? Arggggggggg !!!!!! I'm tired of this futcking battery bullshnit !!!!!!!! I love my Baja, but I keep reminicing about how easily my 400ex used to start.
Hey.....I know it would add weight...but what about 2 batteries hooked together ? Thats what we have on my Drag car. Ok, stupid idea. Forget about it.
