Rear Supsension Set-Up procedures ?!?
#1
Now, before I say anything, your gonna say search the forum, yes, i have, but nobody seems to have explained a complete procedure to completely set up the rear suspension. (Compression and rebound mostly, preload is obvious)
What would be a good way to find my correct rebound and compression settings?? I know I have to start by setting the sag first.
If anybody has a link that explains or will take the time to fill me in (since my head is pretty lacking of knowledge), it would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks

I went by the owners manual. It was descriptive enough to get a couple busted knuckles and get the job done. I didn't mess with the rebound. I only set my pre-load so far. What helped me out was a spanner wrench to help turn the nut at the top of the spring. After I got it moved some, then everything was easily turned by hand.
As dsracer said, what is good for one person, may not be for another. It's trial and error and you may have to go with a seat of the pants feel to get what works best for you.

damping is how fast your shock moves when downforce is applyed, rebound is the speed the shock decompresses. if your a jumper or ride rough terain fast you want your damping set stiff and rebound set slow I sure you can take it from there. ps the can will ajust your rebound and the screw on the bottom of the shock will ajust damping. It been a while that might be backwards.

Not too many months ago Dirt Wheels did a complete write-up about the suspension set-up. It was explained quiete well (even I understood it). I'll see if I can find the date of the magazine.

I am about 185 and 6'1 and from factory settings I took the spring down about a half inch and set the damp kind of stiff and the rebound fast . you can do it easy just jack the bike to where the swing arm is fully extended then loosen the top spanner nut and turn the spring by hand then tighten down the top nut and set your dampning and rebound.

Great, sounds good. Thanks.
Also, one last question, for the front stocker shocks, there is a little black clip of some sort on the threads underneath the shock(underneath the preload adjustment nut). Does this black clip thing have to be removed in order to turn the adjusting nut. Right now, those black things are on there, and the nut is extremely hard to turn.
Sorry, my DS didn't come with an owner's manual, I ordered one from my dealer tho, should be getting it next week or so.
Thanks
