Default Glowing head pipe

I just raced a TT event on my Raptor under the lights. Got back to the pits noticed the head pipes glowing red! Is this a lean condition or a rich condition? I have a stock head pipe with a pro circuit slip on with the large opening. I also have a dynojet kit installed using the dj146 and dj148 main jet sizes. Please help me here, I don't want to smoke the piston because I am lean. Should I lean or richen the mixture? Or is the glowing headpipes normal on a raptor?

well, to my knowledge, your running a little too lean.

I have a stock Warrior and I see the same thing. About the first 8" or so of pipe are lit up at night.

I inquired with a friend who has been riding for a good 6 years and says she sees it all the time.

So is this a normal condition or something that needs to be checked out?

Your header just passes heat well and is made from very thin SS...I don't worry so much about it, but I'd recommend richening your idle mixture screw at least 1/2 turn
Did this happen after an extended idling period?
8inches is a bit to far for the glowing red...richen your mixture Blackandredwarrior

The condition came probably because of the cool dense air...

It had been idling so maybe it was just building up a bit too much heat. I will check with a friend who has a Warrior and see if his does that. If it doesn't I will see about having him adjust it or take it in to the dealer (I paid for their service plan...made me think service was going to be very expensive...then they send an invoice of what was done...I wasn't happy!) and have them double check it.

On another subject, what is the best way to clean the air filter? Do I just clean it in soapy water and do you coat it with some kind of oil?

Thanks for the info guys. I was running with the airbox lid off because I thought my main jetting could handle the extra air flow but I guessed wrong. I will put the lid back on with a few holes carved in it until the glowing subsides. Thanks. By the way, I have pulled the spark plug after running races and it always has that light brown color to it. I felt I was running about the right mixture.

Hey Griffdog, my DS does the same thing, freaks me out every time I see it, but I was told it is normal.
