Just read and maybe you will too get a laugh of a lifetime....................
Recently I had yet another problem with my 01' raptor and the tranny.... I have been going round and round with Yamaha for a while now........
Yesterday, 3 different dealerships that I spoke with and an RTA(sam) with Yamaha told my dealer(that I have been dealing with) that the 02' tranny will not fit the 01' raptor, because they made some changes......"It will not fit"..............
I realize that some ratios were changed and that you have to basically replace the entire tranny(at least the main shaft, with the gear made onto it, and ll the gears on the other(countershaft/drive axle).
The dealers tried to tell me that they probalby changed the cases of something(you could tell that they actually had now clue at all), and that they(all the dealers I talked with) would simply replace a 01' tranny with OEM 01' tranny parts........One mechanic even asked me "How do you know the 02' will fit?".....What a crock of boiling sh_t!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Please, read on...........
These people (mechanics/and technical support) are responsible for working on the machinery that we ride(if it goes to the dealer, which alot do)and a lot of us ride our mahines to the limits/edge. If they are not even familiar enough with the machines to know which parts will interchange, how can a person trust that they can even work on them correctly...............
I am totally digusted at this. I have been riding for 24 years now, and ever since I can remember I have had these kind of problems with dealers. There is a large number of people at the dealerships that simply don't even know ther a_s from a hole in the ground, let alone find, crossreference, interchange parts/partnumbers.( I know that there are a few of you out there that do know what you are doing, and we all APPRECIATE you very much).
To all that probably can't even tie their own shoes....If you work at a dealership and don't know how to do your job(find parts and such in a efficient manner)and are so full of sh_t that I need waders to even come in the front door, and if you don't have a passion for motorsports(atv's, street, dirt or the like), get a different job. Something that doesn't take much thought(since you seem to be very lacking in that department) save the rest of us from having to buy so much Tylenol/Ibuprofen for our headaches that you cause, and the other pains in our a_ses that you also cause us.
These people obviously have no clue as to who they are. So guys and gals let us all make it a point to tell point them out to themselves when we have to deal with them ok......I vow to always tell them how da_n ignorant they are from here on out.........
Thanks for listening

As ignorant as they are I am sure they have internet access to get to raptortranny.com, or you could show em.
I built the site partly because dealers wont know what parts interchange, so customers could show them.

Warrior,,,,,,,,I myself and I am sure many others really appreciate the site.
But the dealers and mechanics should be able to figure these things out(like raptortranny.com). If they were passinate about their jobs/carreers/hobbies, they wuld be as up to date as the riders......
thanks........

ryenol, I agree with what you said 110%. We have two Yamaha dealers down here and neither one of them has the slightest clue about whats going on. So right on buddy!

I have a wonderful idea too..........
why don't the whole lot of us from here that do have a clue as to what is going on(I am very sure that a lot of you have way more knowledge than myself, I consider myself late beginner, maybe early novice level) get together and pitch in some money. With all of us, it wouldn't be much for each person.
We could open up a dealer(more to come later as income would allow(for locations across the nation) that would put all of the others out of business. Our shop would offer one-off knowledgeable service, parts, and sales staff made up of true enthusiasts that could and would gladly answer any and all questions, from stock OEM replacement parts to the extreme/wild side of atv and motorcycling.........
This dealership could also sell all major brands to satisfy everyone's tastebuds...................

Same with the Salespeople, can't you study what you sell even a little bit? How about picking up an ATV magazine and reading it every once in awhile? I would feel pretty dumb that some computer engineer could come in on my territory and run circles around me. If they had any idea how much $hit I have to remember to do my job. It makes me sick. I saw one sales guy who was asked whether a quad was an automatic or a standard. He said, let me check. Walks over and looks for a shifter and tells them it is an automatic. So clever, now that's using your brain. It must be really hard to keep track of the 12 models Yamaha makes. Let's see, divide them into 3 classes, sport, utility, youth...
I've upsold several quads while just looking at the quads. I listen to all the incorrect info these half arsed, lazy salespeople feed to people. It is bad for the industry.

Unfortunatly most of the sales people & mechanics that work at dealerships are not enthusiasts, it's just a job, they may as well be selling & fixing chain saws it doesn't matter to them, a quick way to tell is to see if the dealership sponsors any riders (bikes or quads) that shows some intrest in the sport & is a good sign that they are the kind of shop that can understand the hard core of us in the sport.
When I look for a dealer I look for a pile of ATV or bike mags under his or her desk, a tip off that the sales person is at least intrested in his product.
I run in to the the same thing at car dealers, most of them haven't got a clue to what their product is.
