I would rather have air/oil cooled.

I don't need reverse.

It will be just a play machine. woods and ripping around the farm.

Is a 400EX a tuffer machine then a Z400?

Comparing my ex to my friends z , he beats me but not by much and i weight like 100lbs more than him. The guy i bought my ex off of told me that his friends z's are all falling apart. Not trying to get anyone mad or anything.

Just get the EX. It is proven to be reliable, has easier chain adjustment than the Z. EX has more power down low and the Z has more power up top.

I like my Z better than the EX, but that is mainly because of the seat and the reverse.

Has Honda got the headlight assembly fixed? I had a 2000 and after 9 months the adjusting screws were stripped out, I never touched them. I put zip ties on each side of the screws to hold it in position. That is the only problem I had with the EX the year and a half I had it. The only problem I have had with the Z is a bent axle but Suzuki replaced it.

Both are great machines. Suzuki just needs to do something with the frame and update the swingarm to make chain adjustment easier.

I will run full out down the gravel roads. to my friends houses.

a 400EX will do 66-68mph.

Is a Z400 alot faster or just 2-3mph faster?

Well this is what i have to say about the bikes, my girlfriend entered the Tillamook Sand Drags last year, and she beat a couple of piped Z400's and she has a slip on white bros and a K&N Filter, and 3 of the top 5 were 400ex and the other 2 were z's. This was a 400 4-stroke class and a 100 yard drag and the conclusion was that the bike were pretty close and who ever got out of the hole the best won. So I would say that they are pretty close and the 400ex is very reliable! hope that I have helped!

that's what I am saying, they are close enough that rider size matters alot, and who ever get's the better start make the difference,
the Z400 defiantely does not blow the EX away like alot of people say!!

The Z is nowhere near as fragile as some are saying. I've never seen anyone I ride with have a single problem. It makes a nice trail machine with its' fan assisted liquid cooling. It does not get hot a lose power while cruising at slower speeds on warm days. The initial problems have been worked out, and in the end you can make more power with it than an all out modded EX. Think of resale value too.

The EX handles as good and it pretty darn durable. Not as fast from the races I've had against them, in fact its' no contest. If you don't mind losing to stock Z's by a couple quad lengths with a piped and jetted EX, than you'll be fine.

ok. so there is something wrong with the Z400 frame?

If its to do with jumping. I won't be doing much jumping.

1 vote for unreliable.
3 votes for close in a race.
2 votes for a Z400 being faster then a 400EX.

For woods. a Z400 would be better. cept for being a lil harder to clean.

reverse, nicer seat, wide spread of power and fan assisted liquid cooled.

I would like o have a honda.

But I'm going to try something different. I like green. So I will probably get a KFX 400.
