LECTRON VS. KEIHIN
#2
I would like to echo Ohtons commments. The lectrons are not as good as air strykers. They are kind of tricky to tune and are efected by weather worse than any carb I've ever seen. I've used FTZ mikuni's and Air strykers. I prefer the air strykers overwhelmingly. Though the FTZ alky's are a fine set up. Hey Ohton, have you ever dynoed the strykers vs the mikuni's on alcohol? WE ran some on a friends dyno and the strykers made more than any other carb. almost 5 more than the pj's that most people use. What have you found?

There's a few guys who I run with and they have Lectrons and they really don't like them. They are finecky to tune. On the Oregon Coast temp swings of 30 degrees and humidity changes are common. A tuners nightmare or delight, depends on your perspective.
I've ran the AirStriker over a regular PWK and have to say that there's a difference there. Especially off the bottom. Exactly what the venturi wings in the bell where designed to do, create stable and constant air velocity over the metering area to facilitate accurate jetting at lower speeds. A 38mm Air Striker can be taken up to 39.6mm if you want. I had ran that before getting my 41mm.

I have a similar question. I have heard that the new PWK's are the carbs to have, if anything. I run a banshee w/ a 370 long rod..... for the time being I have been running stock carbs (reccomendation by CT racing). I do know that LRD recommends 28PWK's on there built bikes. I would like to know some other opinions for carb replacement. Rick(MacDizzy) is telling me I should go to a set of 35PWK's, and I will get a major improvement. Can I still get the same throttle response as I do now w/ the stock carbs? I know for trail riding I can always go back to my stock carbs.

For top side riding, dunes and drag racing, I like the 35's. If you are trail riding I like the LRD pwk's. They are 28's bored to 30. They will actually run quite well on top side as well. For an all around carb choose the 30's from LRD.

b370- I use the Keihin 33PWKs and like them alot...kind of a compromise between the big 35's and the smaller 28-30 PWKs. If I recall correctly they were much cheaper than LRD's bored 30 PWKs and I appreciate the extra top-end. Be sure to get new intake manifolds with either the 33 or 35's, I just rebuilt my top-end after the carbs ripped the boot.

Stuart Toomey basically said the same thing way-back about his RZ's that he was building. If there has been alot of transfer tunnel re-work then I am a firm believer that larger carbs will help.
Ohton have you tried aux. transfer ports (AKA finger ports) and case stuffing??? Neighbor is just beginning to re-assemble his ride that has had just these mods done. It's going to be really interesting. The case stuffing is some experimentation, it will be interesting to see how it reacts in relation to carb size and power characteristics.
Swung by your website, that trike is BAD-A$$...very nice.
