Default Dual Batteries

I have another question about my 2009 XTZ. I have a few sets of offroad lights im running plus a radio . When night riding the lights dim obviously with the amount of power draw. I have been thinking about installing a 2nd battery in the underhood storage compartment but am wondering if the alternator can hold up to charging a 2nd battery. I was just going to use another atv battery. Has anyone done this? If so, what type of battery do you use and did you run into any problems?

on my quad I have the rear box I bought a marine grade deep cycle battery to run my radio and winch off of so it leaves the bike battery for the bike keep it on a battery tender and have not had issues since. last fall I had some issues when I was using the winch a lot to clean up downed trees that it was draining the bike battery

So you just left the spare battery unhooked from the quad and recharged it every time you parked it?

the way I have it set up is I have a battery tender on my quad and another plug that plugs into it if I am using the winch both batterys give the power to the winch I also ran a seperate plug back for plugging in the radio to just the marine battery as the radio dont use much of a drain. so as much as possible I leave it hooked up seperatly and keep the marine battery on a battery tender to keep it charged up before riding and if need be I can plug in the spare battery to the battery tender as a "jump start"
