i would say 26's enless your going to mod your quad for the 27's which would be a good idea to mod for the 26's to

I say 27" because hey, it's not my money! You have the stonger axels so it should be able to move them without breaking parts.

lol i love when ppl ask this. i had power issues with my 500 and having 27 inch tires on steel wheels well not really power but it just worked the motor so hard i got horrible gas mileage and i believe if i had 26 inch tires i would have been better in the mud actually. there is a big difference between turning the 26 and 27 inch tires it is suprising how much difference an inch makes. you would gain a 1/2 inch on ground clearance by going with the 27's but for the power you would save i believe you would be happier with the 26's specially on a 400 and if possible go with aluminum rims i really wish i would have went with aluminum it is worth the extra money in my eyes but i heard the gators are a great tire and hope you enjoy them

The 400 will pull 27's ok in certain situations. In a mud bog, I'm sure it would drain it out some, but for most other things it will pull them. But 26 would possibly be a better way to go. Depends on the weight of the tire from 26-27. I could feel a drop in acceleration with 27's on my AC500, but it tore it up in the mud what few times I mudded it. I had zero problems turning them with the 500. That was with steel ITP Deltas.

26's or 27's for my 400i
I decided to go woth 26" Mudlites for my 400. I wanted to stay the same size as the stock tires but I found the tires with the more agressive tread I wanted did not come in a 25" tire. Had to go with a 26" tire to get what I was looking for. I also was a little leary of tearing something up or loosing to much punch if I went with too larger a tire.
I rode a buddies AC400 with 26" mudlites and it was an experience similar to what you described (without the locker) but it was in 2 wheel drive! I was very impressed with their performance without any mods. I just looked at what I was going to be doing with the tire and let that decide which size tire and tread design for me. Then I looked at price from there. |
