Helmets, what to buy, full face or open face?
You could just get a full face with a flip up front . Once this year I misjudged the drop off a dune and smashed my face into the crossbar pad. My mx hemet worked perfectly and I was able to keep right on going ,no damage. Had I had an open face that would have been a serious injury and a trip ender for sure.
I never thought about the cpr thing. Although I would think twice about giving it to someone who had thier face ripped off because of a helmet choice.

There are several items available that allow you to give CPR and still keep their germs and your germs away from each other. Find a fire department or a first aid instructor, they will show you what you need. I carry one in each of my cars and trucks plus one on the boat and both quads. My wife and daughter have them in their purses, then again they both work on ambulances.

I wear the MX Style full face for everything except my street bike. Goggles and a breath deflector are great in the snow for the sled. When buying a helmet, in most cases, you do get what you pay for. DOT stamps are good but a snell 2000 rating or higher is best. Auto racers cant use a regular DOT rated helmet they must use a Snell rated unit. A $50 helmet is good if you have a $50 head! Im a safety specialist and have a great deal of expirience with helmets and how the work. Check the snell website for manufacturers who meet the most stringent standards.

One thing to think about if you are going the morbid route, a broken jaw and/or swelling in your nasal/pharyngeal passages from a facial injury will make it that much more difficult to give CPR. I can understand what Bear is saying with boats, but for atv's I would go for the extra protection full face gives you. Also, I never buy a helmet unless it is Snell and DOT approved. You can get a decent full face helmet for $100.00.

I agree, it's just a matter of preference. Bear makes some good points but so do others in full face helmets. I like the open face myself. During warm weather riding it's easy to get a bottle of water, chew mints or smoke a cigar if I like, without taking the helmet off. Dusty trails, no problem... Just put on a kercheif for protection. Winter riding I use the same helmet or if it's really cold out (below 30 degrees) I wear a snowmobile helmet with heated lense. Michigan winters are as cold as any.
It's more important that you wear a helmet. There are organizations out there, checking to see how many ATV injuries are due to no helmet. Not just in Michigan but across the land.

I ended up on my back yesterday while unloading. Stupid didnt hurt but it was wet and cold! Switched trucks and ramp straps were not in use. Stupid wet muddy me...soft ground end of ramp sank just enough...hey look at me holding my quad up off of me. Fortunatly unhurt but wet from the get go. Maybe one should don a helmet before he sits his **** on vinyl at all! Doh!
