Well after a long summer of too much work and not enough play I have finally caught up on all the posts. No posting for me in the last couple months but I have still tried to read when I could.

Anyway onto the meat of the situation(cowboy you might find this interesting).I put 27" Mudbugs on my '00 500 Auto due to the feedback of many on this site earlier this year and my conversations with HL.

WOW was I impressed. EXACTLY what I was looking for. This thing will just about go through anything now. I originally bought these tires as a compromise between trail and mud, but for all intents and purposes they are not. There is NO ride quality compromise, NO increased vibration, NO stability loss, and VAST increases in mudability and clearance.

I have rode with Vamps, Blackwaters, Spidertracks, etc and always been very impressed with the Bugs. Granted all the above tires have a little different purpose but the Bugs mud with the Vamps and have trail manners of the stock tires.
Unfortunately I have not rode with Outlaws or Claws so can't comment on that. Best of all the Bugs are bolt right on with immediate gains, no lift kits, spacers or rubbing.

There is a small power loss but drop it in low to really mud and forget about it. The only issue for getting stuck is clearance which affects you no matter what tire you have on. If you are hung up you are hung up, you could have tractor tires on.

I could go into great detail but it's probably more constructive to field any questions from anyone. I have some awesome pics and if I can just figure out how to put them up I will.

Thump,

I checked out your pics (looks like fun) my questions is "how are we supposed to see how the Bugs look on your Cat when they are always under water & muck?"

Seriously though, glad your happy with them, I think I'm leaning toward the Bugs also whenever I get the 489s wore out enough to convince the wife.

Do you think the 27" tires would be to much for an AC 400 4x4. I can't decide between the 26 or 27. I have choosen the Bugs also what did it do to the steering. It looks like it would get really stiff.

Cheers Jim

I think your 400 will put the 26" best. I have a freind that has 27" Mud bugs on a 400 that is faster than a 400 2x4. He has douglas aluminum wheels, a k&N power kit, and a super trapp. Thats why he pulls them so well.

I have to go with Boneman here. I think you would be best served with the 26". Not that the 400 won't pull the 27" inchers but there are gonna be situations where you will find yourself looking for more torque. With 31 ft/lbs on the 500 there is usually some in reserve when you need it but with the 400 I don't expect you would have much left over. It will work for you, but not optimally on a stocker.

Oh yeah absolutely no effect on steering effort because although they are more aggressive you have much less tire on the ground.

Hey, thanks for the info on the Bug sizes, I was leaning towards the 26 but just needed a nudge of common sense.
Thanks jim

Hay does the bugs mount on the stock rims? Just an even swap?
Thanks Sly

Yes, they will mount to the factory wheels.
