Right now I have an 03 400i auto. Trying to convince the wife we NEED a 650. But which one, I have ridden the twin (just for a few mins) and WOW but I am scared of the belt system from what I have read it can be a nightmare, but I dont have a problem with doing some clutch spring changes to keep it from slipping and of course a chip. Havent ridden the H1 yet, but I am not to keen on all black. I ride mostly trails, but like the mud also (I would say 75% trails-25% mud) the 700 is just to expensive for me right now. I ride with Grizzlys mostly so showing them up would be great, at about 2-4000 ft. Whats the better bike for my type of riding? Thanks for any advice.

you said you ride 25 percent mud and well i feel if you play in the mud 10 percent of the time you need groundclearane and diff lock which is why the cats are becoming popular. you are right the 650 v2's clutching was a nightmare haven't heard much about it lately but i know the guys who have the H1's absolutely love them, i guess if it was me i would go with the H1, i am in kind of the same dilema as you i am kinda leaning towards the prowler all the time but if i get a fouwheeler it will probably be the H1 just because the clutching from the v2 left a bad taste in my mouth.

I can not offer you anything but an opinion. I bought an H1 about 2 months ago and absolutely love it. Tons of power. Great ride.

From what I've seen, the V-2 is close to $500 more than the H1. Buy the H1 and order a new set of fenders in the color you want and have the best of both worlds.

Actually the H1 costs more here where I am, but not a bunch, what is a set of fenders worth?? And how does the H1 compare to a Grizzly in a race (I know its a utility quad, but just curious) in mud I assume they are about the same?

The front fender panel is around $220 and the rear is $200, depending on how good your dealer treats you. I paid $500 more out the door for my 05 V-2 early last year than my cousin just paid for an 06 H-1. Same dealer with the same discount that he would give me. I guess it all depends on the area and dealer as far as prices go.

I just paid $6899 OTD for a new leftover 05 650 V2 with 27" mud lite tires, itp series 5 wheels, rear trunk/seat all mounted and installed. The H1 they had was an 06 but they wanted $7000 with no extras, the choice was easy. From what I understand the H1 is a better mudder due to the lower range gearing, but you cannot beat the V2 for fun factor all around. DO NOT wory about the belt system, I had a Prairie 650 before the AC and all you need is a couple of springs and remove one shim from the secondary clutch, you will never have a problem unless you are are running 29.5" tires in penut butter, in reverse. Moset people and dealers do not understand how simple and tuneable the Kawi clutch system is. Go to the NYROC site or KOD site, more info than you will ever need.

05 650 Twin here, I can't agree that "nightmare" is the proper word to describe the clutch problem. Mild annoyance perhaps? An annoyance far outweighted by fun factor.

i wouldnt call it a nightmare eiather, from what i have seen on NYROC's site it seems like a easy fix but then again i have been turning wrenches for 28 years, but like it was said i too like the fun factor of the V2.
