PLEASE HELP ( Problems )

I have an 03 Arctic Cat 250, it has been a great lil bike until recently.Bout 3 weeks ago my battery was dead after sitting over night. I charged it rode a lil bit thought everything was cool. Next day same thing, so I am thinking I need a battery. get the new battery charge it, everything is fine for about a week then weak battery. After a few days battery is dead, now all this time I can pull start it and run it, if I pull start it in the morning and ride for awhile it will start fine for the rest of the day. The last time I rode it, the voltage regulator started smoking and I started on my way home. Before I could get there it started running real sluggish and then died. Nothing, no neuttral light, cant pull start it nothing (DEAD). Anyways I finally get it home and take off the regulator and it all burnt on the back of it and the wires are fryed.

Now my question, what would cause my regulator to burn up like that? I dont want to buy a new one and the same thing happen to it aswell. I hope I can just buy a new regulator and put it on and go, but I dont want to buy it and it get burned up. I am new here and really need your guys help.. Hope to get to know everyone, thanks in advance for any help...

Sounds like the magneto is overcharging.

Problem: Magneto overcharges
Condition Remedy

2. Regulator/rectifier resistor damaged - defective 2. Replace resistor
3. Regulator/rectifier poorly grounded 3. Clean - tighten ground connection
