I heard stories of 04 650 frames breaking, well my atv is in in two complete pices. It broke clean on the lower frame in the middle under the moter, and on the top next to the air intake. Any sugestions on what to do with Arctic Cat fixing it or who to talk to

I have 1600 miles on the machine. All are on gravel loggin roads or on woods trail, nottin hard, I was doing 30mph on a smooth gravel road and next thing I know the atv is in two pice and the center lower frames dragging on the ground. The machine from a side view was in a V

On the bright side, if the machine is truely in two pieces then it makes it easier to fit into the back of your truck.

Sorry, couldn't resist. I believe they had a recall on frames or something but I do not know the years or exactly what they were doing. If I remember correctly it had something to do with the welds weakening the tube steel. I think they were specific and it was in front of the rear wheel well and somthing around the airbox. I would start by contacting the dealer because a good metals guy can look at the breaks and tell you if it was a defect or abuse.

Second, if you are too far out of waranty and just want to fix it. Don't be scared to take it to a good welding and fabrication shop and have them straighten and weld it. Even for 3 or 4 welds that you need I would not see that costing more than $150. Once the welds were cleaned and painted the only person who would know is you.

Hope this helps.

That really sucks, if AC will do nothing find a Local welder and have him reinforce it and weld it back togather.

It is my belief that every manufacturer has some trouble with certain vehicles regardless of abuse or maintenace. It does not matter if you pay $40,000 or $4000. I know a guy who bought a fully tricked out Caddy Escalade last year and it has had CV, Tranny, blown head gaskets, brake, Electrical issues and I know he paid around $50k for it. It was in for repairs more in the first two months he owned than most vehicles. Does that mean that a Caddy is a crappy company? So "Brand Bashing" to me is just another case of the grass is always greener on the other side of the fence.

I justed talked to a guy yesterday that had to weld the frame on his Honda (450 ES I Think) last year. I guess he backed up to the dirt load/unloading ramp at the trail head, started the bike up and backed it off the trailer. It dropped about 12inches and he heard a clank noise. His partner got to looking and he broke the frame near the foot rests. Honda said it was abuse from a 12inch drop! refused to deal with it under warranty. He had it welded up and it is working fine.
