2000 500 4x4 won't start
 

I have a 2000 500 auto 4x4 that won't always start with the starter but will always start with the rope. The starter doesn't turn over but does make a light clicking noise. I put in a new battery and still the same problem. How do I tell if the problem is with the starter or starter button?
Does this unit have a solenoid? :confused:

check to make sure the cables on the solenoid are tight, it should be right under the seat, all you have to do is follow the positive cable from the battery.

The battery wire runs into a block of potted resin. Nothing is loose. Is this the solenoid? Can it be tested? Is it replaceable?

The positive battery cable usually bolts to the selenoid. You can see this after a little clear plastic cover is removed. Most of the time the machine will pull start but the electric starter won't work. If the battery is bad or weak the selenoid usually just clicks.

I know of no way of testing it other than replacing it with a known good one. Got a friend with a similar machine then borrow the part (temporarily) and see what happens.

I put on a new solenoid and it didn't fix the problem. It still starts occassionally with the button and always with the rope.
Is there a plan B?
