2008 A C 500 won't start

The cat has only 34 hrs. on it. Mainly use it for hunting and because I live in the north east........light snow plowing. The battery was weak ao I had my son put a new one in. Upon hooking up the cables, he had attached the pos one and when he attemped to attach the neg cable it sparked. He mentioned it to me and noticed he attached the cables backwards!! The neg cable was never attached but he had touched the neg side of the battery a couple of times. After reversing the cables, the cat spins over well but appears to have no spark. CDI burnt?????

Did you check all the fuses?

Bobboy Dec 1, 2011 11:24 AM

pulled them all out, and did a continuity check on them, all were fine. Pulled out all the diodes, relays.....everything looked fine. The damn thing spins over using the key just great. It acts like there is no spark or it's not getting any fuel. It ran fine when I parked it a couple of months ago. Fuel tank is full. It was never started nor even keyed on until after the connection was corrected. Thanks for askin'

Did you test it to see f there actually is spark and check for a wet spark plug to make sure it is getting fuel?

Kerbbirds Dec 4, 2011 06:44 AM

pull spark plug and ground it to motor then turn it over , see if there is spark, might try a new plug while your at it, if your gonna let it sit for months, need to get some stabil in the gas

Kerbbirds,
Hey thanks for the suggestion. I had already pulled the plug, cleaned it up and grounded it. It was wet, so I know it was gettin' some fuel. It has a great spark. I am gonna get into the fuel system next.

It did fire, but now won't stay runnin'. gotta be either a plugged fuel line or maybe a bad diaphram??? At least it does fire. I thought it might have been the CDI.
Thanks.

might need a good carb cleanin, take carb float bowl off, remove all jets, air screw , blow through all passage ways with carb cleaner and compressed air, Ill bet pilot jet is plugged, if youll run seafoam in your gas it will keep carb clean, wont clean it whe its already gunked up though

Bobboy Dec 8, 2011 08:55 AM

Hey Kerbbirds, thanks again for the great suggestion. I definitely will run some seafoam through it. I did manage to get the darn thing going over the weekend without replacing anything. I'm guessin' you were right about the carb. That's what I get for not usin' the thing. Thanks again. Merry Christmas!!

Check to make sure the fuel tank vent line (which runs up and ends under the instrument pod) is not plugged or kinked.

Bobboy Dec 8, 2011 11:20 AM

Thanks Fossil, I didn't think to check that, but I will. Have a great Christmas and get dirty!!!
