2015 blowing belts

2015 I bought new in 2016 has 840 miles on it, original belt blew at 798. 2nd belt from dayco blew apart already. What causes this - no smoking no signs of anything just driving along and shreds apart

U using low range when needed?

Steven Bandemer 07-28-2017 09:48 AM

First 800 miles not so much but havnt needed it since I installed new belt that lasted MAYBE 50 miles

Kymco 450i 07-28-2017 09:57 AM

First I would make sure the two clutches are aligned properly and there are no broken springs etc, in other words are both front and rear clutches working as they should. What are you doing with this machine? As the other poster mentioned, if your working the machine hard in high range that will tear up a belt. When working hard and going slow you should use low gear as it will keep RPM higher and belt fan will cool better. In most cases, the factory belt will last longer than aftermarket belts, even though they cost more. Without additional information, that would be my best guess.

The 2nd belt didn't last 50 miles of 2wheel drive dirt riding he first factory belt i understand with me working it. I'll check alignment but both belts just shredded going down the road with cruising

If you're constantly over around 15 miles per hour, and not towing or going through deep mud or snow, you can use high range. For continued slow speed riding, towing, going through or over rough terrain, or through mud or snow, low range is best.

And I get that with the low rage - all I know is I burned up the 2nd belt in less than 50 miles and that's why I'm confused. All I did was drive dirt roads

I would try one more belt. Try getting a Gates belt. I've had good luck with them.

When you replace it, see if anything sounds off about the CVT. Wobble type sound would mean one of the pulleys is warped. Chattering sound means the belt has lost some cog teeth, for lack of a better word. If you start smelling the belt melting and it's not moving much, the pulleys might be worn enough that they aren't gripping the belt when under throttle.

I've heard from other Cat guys, it's better to use the Arctic Cat belts. I'm a bit nervous with my AC Diesel, as the only time that I've ever used Low range is plowing snow, it pulls so strongly in Hi range....

170 dollar belt......and somone makes artic cat belts they don't have there own factory. So just need to figure out gates or dayco, I'll try one more didn't think with 800 total miles I should have failing cvt parts (belt is a wear item, that don't bother me)
