Default 2000 Arctic Cat 500 4x4

I am having problems with my 2000 Arctic Cat, it's some sort of electrical issue. It starts right up and will idle fine, when I press the throtle up to move it will backfire unless I engage the hand brake or have the headlights turned on. I have replaced the battery, cleaned the ground wire where it connects to the chassis and any other place I could find. Nothing has worked except holding the brake lever on or keep the headlight switch on. Anyone know what's going on?

I would think about replacing the ignition switch, first. If that doesn't fix, check all the wires coming down by the steering post for chafing. On that model, should check the boot between airbus and carburetor for cracks, too, though that's not your issue.
