Default 700 clutch stays engaged

I have a 2012 HD 700 prowler.
I was going slow hauling leaves when out of nowhere it starts squealing. And it died. I put it in neutral and starts up but if I try starting it in gear it is engaged and wants to go without hitting the accelerator. If I slow down to a stop it keeps trying to go and it dies. I took the clutch cover off of it. That was a chore. Belt and clutches look fine, is it something to do with the wet clutch? Thanks!

yup... sounds like you need to inspect the wet clutch.

got it mostly tore down right now. need to get my impact back from my uncle to zip the bolts off holding the clutches on. that is a real pain in the butt to get the clutch cover off of an hdx prowler. am i missing something? i had to remove the fuel tank and floor boards to pull the clutch cover off.

Interesting... the service manual said to remove the seat.
Nothing there about the gas tank or floor board.

Trying to get the clutches off right now. Second dary clutch zipped off like a dream. Primary clutch I can hammer away forever on it with my 1/2 Milwaukee impact and wont take the nut off. Tried heating it tried penetrating lube and nothing. I'm actually afraid I will break something. And with the HDx prowler I can't see how you couldn't remove the gas tank, this thing sucks to work on.

Yeah.. if its the 1st time their being removed.. their a pita..make surebyour holding the primary from turning while yourbhitting it with the impact. How big is your compressor? If its a little pancake compressor, it aint gonna work.
And be careful of the heat.. you can melt the roller sleeves.

I heated it and finally got it off. I had to use the 1/2 18 volt Milwaukee impact but it came. Got both clutches off now to get the cover off and drop oil and get to the wet clutch. What should I look for? I can turn counter clockwise free but it gets gritty and locks up by hand.

You can just remove it when you get it apart and be done with it. No replacement nessessary.

So a person can just remove the wet clutch? I thought you needed to get a kit for that.
