I'm going to be new to this ATV thing and I need help deciding. I can get a AC 300 4x4 for $4300 or a 375 auto 2x4 for $3900. Both are brand new. Are these good prices or are they high? Which ATV do guys think is better? I will use it for hunting and slower trail riding. Thanks in advance..

I would go for the 4x4, you may want to look into a 375 4x4 if you want the auto. The 300 is a very good quad too, we have a 250 4x4. They are very capable just aren't that fast, but they will pull more than you would imagine. The super low range really gets the most out of the smaller engines. If you can find a left over 2001 you can have a locking front differential with a little modification. The 375 is a belt drive auto and I have heard good things about them as well, but have no experience with the 375. Good luck and keep us posted.

I would vote for the 300 for the following reasons:

3 ranges

manual

independant suspension

4x4!!! (I couldn't imagine having a big 2x4.. I guarentee if you didn't have it you would be kicking yourself in the bum a few times for not getting it)

slightly lighter

keep in mind both are great quads and if the 375 was the 4x4 model I would probably vote for it since it would be more powerful... but then again... how could i vote for an auto??

good luck on choosing your new toy!

I'd go for the 4x4. There's been SOOOOOOO many times that I would have been SOL with out it!

Actually, I bought a 2wd and never needed 4wd. I have never been stuck, well once, in deep mud, but it was easy to get it out

Well maybe try this, Get your 2x4 on a steep hill, steep enough that you have to lean up on the handlebars to feel safe that your bike isn't gonna tip. The hill is wet/muddy and is about 30 or 40 bike lengths long, about half way up you have to stop for some reason or another. Now try getting going again... well it aint gonna happen. I've been in this situation many times and with out 4WD I'd be backing down the hill.

I guess it depends on the type of riding you do.. On a side note, with 4WD your steering is more predictable when you need it to be. Like if you're going up or down tight curvy terrain and want to your front end to "push" less. You can kick in 4wd. 4wd will PULL your front end in the direction you want to go.

If you plan on staying on the flat ALL of the time, 2wd will be fine. If you plan on RIDING your quad in every type of situation 4wd will be very handy!

As far as your question on which bike is better, The only negative thing I can think of on the 300 is the horsepower and ground clearance. I've ridden a 300 mind you and it didn't feel like a slouch though. I would have bought the 300 if they hadn't have had the 375. I didn't think I would like the auto either, but it turns out, I love it. The auto takes out all of the guess work. The 300 is a spectacular bike, heck it even has Independent Rear Suspension. The front tires are slightly smaller on the 300 though. I have the Stock Dunlops from my 375 if you'd like. I'd part with 'em cheap!

I dunno, in my opinion, if you buy a quad (quad meaning four), you ought to have 4WD. It would be like buying a Jeep Wrangler with out the 4WD package. This is only my opinion though and I don't mean bristle the hair on anyone's backs. I've seen guys on sport quads (2wd) go up some amazing hills, however, they have to do it at MUCH faster (seemingly uncontrolled) speed to keep momentum up. Whereas I can kick in my 4wd and creep up in low gear at a comfortable pace.
