I am looking at buy ing a ATC 250R with a 85 CR 500 Motor. The owner says it runs great, but that it is hard to start. What is hard to start about the 85 CR 500 motor. Is it just hard to kick. Special trick or something?

Have a good one,

RoostKing...

Hey thanks for your reply for my question on the 250R read my reply to you any way I have some info to help you out see I saw a 1986 250R w/ a 500 motor (85) any we went to look at it and after I was done with my bone chilling test drive I told him about you question and he was stumped but had some suggestions he said that it might be becouse the starter might need to be lubracated or it might be becouse it just needs to be cranked a few times to get the pistons going but the one I rode started on the first kick and boy did it go fast I turned around to go down the street and gave it a burst of throttle and my eyes shot to the back of my head and the front end lifted up like a leaf in the wind. It was a very nice atv if you are looking for a dunner or just somthing to waste the competition that is the atv for you but BE CAREFUL and good luck! p.s. it is a definate banshee killer!

ATCRacer,
I am really interestedin this ATC. I basically want to use it strictly as a duner. And what a duner that would be. I have to wait until i get some vacation time until i can check it out. Hopefully I will run into one closer to where I live. I might just buy a ATC 250R, I think they look SO awesome. I am going to see what happens. Talk to you later,

check the compression on the engine...it could be low on compression or have a scored piston or bad ring...or leaky headgasket etc. or it could very well just be bad jetting, clogged air filter, or something like that. good luck

I'm a Dirtbiker besides a 3 wheeler. CR500's were ALWAYS hard to start the newer ones were easier to but the 85's and stuff were just beasts!!
