how's this sound?
 

today i did a top speed run on my 1986 200s. i'm running everything totally stock minus the spark arrestor (rusted off). tires at 2 p.s.i. elevation 4200 ft. 50.9 MPH measured by gps. i think i could get a couple more mph's if i took the airbox lid off or came back home to 1200 ft. it was kinda dead up there. so does this sound resonable?? my brother also did a run quick tonight on his 350X, but the conditions wernt exactly favorable. uphill with a poor gps signal. he only got 57 mph.

your 50 sounds about correct..,...for that altitude (5000 is the point they say you need to rejet) back at 1200ft with the tires aired up to 4-5 psi you are prob good for another 4-5mph

i have a hard time pushing my toys to the limit because i fear that it is going to explode on me. i'm not worried so much about the older stuff with smaller engines and overhead cams, but like the foreman with the big engine size and all the moving parts, when you get above 40 the thing sounds like its going to explode. so how much can you push things without causing serious damage? i would assume that the rev limiter is there to prevent damage, but i still have a hard time pushing things out of fear of costly repairs. whats usually the most commonly damaged part from over-reving?

over-rev usually causes valve float.......but I am not sure if that is a "contact" engine or not...other stuff could be bent rockers, broken valve springs ect.......all I can say is if you are not comfortable with reving that high...DON"T!!!!!!!!! generally i dont push the limit. and because of that i have never had any serious engine damage. i've only had to rebuild one engine, and it only had low compressoin from 30+years of use. the foreman always is kept at the lower speeds (under 40). i'm hoping that this care should extend the engine life greatly. as for the 200s, it doesnt sound that bad even at full throttle. truthfully the only times it ever is pushed to max rpm, is the occasional speed run, and when i'm shooting up gravel piles and doing crazy stuff
