1984 200S plug fouling - float stuck?
Hello,
I have a pair of 1984 200 S's. one when i ride them together with a buddy one of them fouls the plug evey hour or so, uses twice as much fuel on identical rides and you can smell that it's got unburned fuel out of the exhaust and it's sooty. performance is not noticably different though. any suggestions? stuck float? weak spar / coil? i am going to swap carbs and see if the problems persist's or switches with the carbs. if it is a stuck float, how hard is that to fix?
thanks,
biGjOhn

check the float level.......it should be .49in (if my memory is working)
be sure the float valve is clean and working properly
I have a manual for a 185 if you need any info......i think its the same

you could check the operation of the float using a clear tube (1/8") attached to the overflow on the bowl
hold the clear tube vertically against the side of the bowl,,,,and observe the fuel level when you loosen the bowl drain screw
I hope you understand my babble

thanks for al of the data, i will try with that info. i beleive the carb is clean though and i forgot to mention... i was having this problem, rebuilt the carb and still had / have the same problem. So i know it is clean & clear... I blew compressed air through the ports, holes etc... i will have to check the float, adjust etc. I do have the manual too - thanks for the offer though!

ok,,,,
well,,,as far as the 'slow jet',,,,,blowing air may not help if it is gummed up and clogged
If you havent taken it out (some screw out,,,,and some are compression fit),,,,then go ahead and remove it ,,,and check for crud and be sure it is free of obstruction
its a tiny little hole,,,that is the 1st to clog and screw things up
thing is,,,,it will run even if it is clogged
not well,,,,,,but it will run,,,,,very inefficiently
