Rear Shock, I need help
 

ok guys, so heres the thing, i got a 1985 250r and i've been rebuilding, ive got it where its running pretty fast and its reliable, but i think i need the rear shock rebuilt. When i sit on it it just feels like its sinking down way too much and i dont feel comfortable jumping it, cause it really seems like it would buttom out. So i did my research and it looks like a lot of people are saying send them to pep shocks and they rebuild them. So to make it easier i'll just list my questions, i know there are some guys on her that are awesome and have helped me out a lot so anything will help guys, i need your knowledge

Questions:
1. how are the shocks suppose to be on a 1985 250r, like how close should the fenders be to the tires when your on it?
2. how do i make sure the shock is adjusted as stiff as it can be?
3. If i do need to get it rebuilt then is pep shocks the best way to go or do you have any other ideas?
4. has anyone delt with pep and know approximate prices, a phn number, and other information that will come in handy for getting my shocks fixed.

Well as far as adjusting your shock, you have a spanner nut on top of you coil spring. If it is all the way adjusted down(spring compressed) then that is as stiff as that shock will get. If not you can stiffin your shock by running the nut down. If you can't get a spanner wrench that fits(Honda dealer should have one) you can use a hammer and a punch or a clamp to compress the spring and run it down by hand, becareful with that one. Once you have the spring stiffness where you want it readjust your recoil adjustment so it doesn't spring back too fast and buck you off the bike. I hope this helps good luck.

the adjustment to get it to not bottom out is the shock damper,but ride height is spring tension.You may have to get a stiffer spring if you are a heavy guy. my tri z 250 was made for a light rider, i had to put a yamaha warrior back suspension on it to get it to handle.

BikeBandit.com has the most OEM parts available. Just click on rear shock in the list and choose your internal parts to rebuild it.

Also, you can contact Works Performance and they do rebuilds or complete replacements.

The previous replies cover the adjustment info. You might want to get your reservoir recharged with Nitrogen along with the adjustment. My X has three dampening settings located under the shock (it's a black knob)
