Default 83' 110 Oil Leak Issues

Been working on a nice 83' 110 that I picked up this summer. Motor has strong compression and rusn well. Just completed a carb rebuild and cleaning and fired up yesterday. Started on second pull no issues. No smoke and runs well. However, it does leak oil (not too bad but bad enough to smoke when hot) out of the upper end (head gaskets a bit and out of other upper end seals like value guide plug, etc).

What should I do? Should I just replace the upper end gaskets with a kit? How much trouble is this compaired to a upper end rebuild? If the compression is good is an upper end rebuild even needed? Can I get away with the cheap gasket replacement? How much trouble is to do this?

I want to keep it cheap but reasonable hassle wise. Do I need any special tools just to replace the upper end gaskets? It seems pretty envolved from what my books show. Is it hard? Any suggestions would be great!!

Thanks!

Sounds to me like a top end gasket kit would suit your needs. You may want to check your head for warpage, if it is warped you can sand it down with a sanding block. Take a piece of glass or something similar that would be VERY flat and use a piece of wetsand sandpaper and make looping swirls over the head to see if you have a depression somewhere. You should be able to sand it out if your careful and don't apply to much pressure to one spot. Or you may just need to add a shim here or there.
