My 250r keeps fouling the plug. Runs for about 20 minutes and dies. Plug is not covered in oil. Just had the head shaved and redecked. I can clean the plug and it will fire back up. Plug is wet when I remove it. Ran great for about 3-4 hours on Friday. Now this, started Sunday.

Also this is a 2-stroke engine. Can anyone also refresh my memory on what mixture to use. Thanks.

i have a tri-z 250 and it says to use a 30:1 ratio, but i usually run 40:1 or sometimes even 50:1. you just have to use a good oil like amsoil.

thanks bud. I know it was somewhat of a dumb question. but man I had a massive brain contusion....lol

Now do you think the oil might be mixed to rich and just causing this problem with the plug for me.

Thanks again and hey 250's are the bomb. I am 32 years old had this one since I was 10 years old. Since dad and my brother passed last year just trying to remember alot of things. and sometimes i get a little crazy... three wheels rule.

any comments are welcome I just joined the forum. Monty

don't sweat it. I've had mine for about 2 years now and I'm still trying to figure stuff out with mine. 250's rule all atv's and atc's. if you were running anything under 30:1 then thats definitely what was happening with your plug. Try 40:1 with some amsoil. If your plug doesn't last you at least a week of hard riding like that, then step it up to 50:1. just make sure you still see a little of the 2 stroke smoke coming from the pipe when you do that.

Hey Daron,

Thanks again for the advice.... I was using a 50:1 ratio.... I dropped it down to a anout a 40:1 ratio Monday evening and rode it around for about an hour. It was pretty smooth and never did foul out on me. Hopefully this problem is resolved, but won't be sure until I get to ride her hard, and see how she reacts after she gets good and hot.

Got to wait till the riding area that I go to dries out a little. Had way to much rain in the last week. Very wet her in SE Kansas. And the wife says no play time till the water is pumped out of the basement. So went to the hardware store last night and bought a 1 hp sump pump and 1 1/2 in. hose that is 150 ft long running from basement to storm drain along the curb in front of the house. Started it at 7:00 p.m. last night, and at 7:00 a.m. this morning the basement water level has gone down from 4 ft. 8 in. deep to 2 ft. 2 in. deep........ Oh yeah, gonna be ride'n this afternoon at the chats... LOL

Nice ride! I also have an 83' 250R. I love it to death. I had the same problem as you. Its running way to rich. I used the factory reccomended fuel/oil mix of 20:1. That was way to rich. So I switched to 32:1 and adjusted the jetting and now it runs great and doesnt foul plugs.

Make sure you use a good quality oil for the premix too. Also, it is a 2 stroke...yor gonna foul plus more than uaual anyway.

Actually guys, more oil makes you run leaner. oil:gas adversly affects air:fuel. The more oil in your mix the less fuel it has. Thats why his bike ran better at 40:1 than 50:1. You should pick one oil (honda hp2 is probably the cleanest burning oil on the market run it at 40:1)and jet it for 1 ratio and never change it. Im the origanal owner of my 250r and do all my own work. I've been down this road in the past. Good luck

You should also make sure it is jetted right, and there isnt too much gas vapor being pumped into the engine and flooding the engine. Make sure the carb is clean as well.

2 strokes do not foul plugs on a regular basis,,,, i have a stock 86 250r that has the same plug in it for 5 years,,, never been fouled,, same with my 500 same plug since it was built,,, run a good oil,,, and jet it properly,, its that easy,,,, i run 32:1 in the dunes and 40:1 everywhere else,,, no problems

If you putt your 250 around it will also cause you to foul plugs. The 250 is designed to be riden at high revs.
