New to ATC's
 

I am in the market for an ATC250R. I do not know anything about these bikes. I am looking at buying an 85 model. It has upgraded reeds and a cooler head, it also has a K&N intake and aftermarket exhaust. It also has new plastics and seat cover, not sure if the throttle has been changed to a twist type. The seller is asking $2500, is this reasonable? Also, where can I buy a longer swing-arm and longer axles. These are really the only two upgrades I would like to do. Maybe upgrade the carbuerator too eventually, but not really anything too in-depth. I am not very technically or mechanically gifted whenit comes to installing pistons or other internals.

It would have to be pretty nice for me to spend $2500. I see them on Ebay and only the nicest of them go for that kind of money. Typical for a nice one around here would be in the $1500 to $1800 range. Depending on where you are in the country, they may be higher or lower.

That is top dollar so it better be mint, especially for an 85. 85 & 86 250r are for sale all over. Might want to shop around a little... know what you are buying. You can still get a new extended rear axle.. for about $400. Extended swingarm you will have to have one made or find a used one, which will cost you about the same. Then you'll have $3300 into it... and if you're lucky you will get your $2500 back for it if you sell it.

Not a bad price, but the more I tore into it the uglier it got. After 1 year of sweat, bloody nuckles, and intense profanity, I installed my final parts last night. I estimate I have invested $900.00 for a total of $1,200. This is what I replaced on the beast. New rings-rear bearings and carrier-carb rebuild-air filter-front and rear brake pads-straighten bent fork-shock boots-radiator shrouds-rear fenders-handle bars-butt load of cleaning. Was it worth it?....Absolutely!

Yup, agree $2,500 way to steep. I would not expect to get that for mine and it has everything and cherry. Anyway, I used Dura Blue for the axel and Lonestar for the swing arm. I don't remember exactly what I paid for them I seem to remember the axle was around $400 and the arm was $500-600.
