JB weld is the name of the epoxy most people use on tanks (i believe) make sure the tank is clean an dry before you apply it

i had a 83 atc steel tank. when i pressure washed it it took off the epoxy the prior owner had put on it. it was like 4 pin holes. well i took a grinder too it with a wire wheel. and cleaned the tank out. let it dry. then i took a torch and solder to it. never had another issue with it. guess it depends on how big the hold are and if it is a steel tank.

you know if you wanted to they make a liner for the inside of the tank. think it involves cleaning the tank out good. then dump the liquid in the tank and roll the tank tell it coates the whole inside of it with a liner. iv never used it but iv seen people use it. im also not shure how good and how pricey it is.

There are a couple things you can do
I had the same issue and looked up Clarke and bought new replacment plastic tank
No more rust issues
Or you can work with your steel tank
Epoxy no work so good
Best to clean tank
Easy way take to radiator shop have them clean and repair simple cheap
All you would have to do then is repaint
Done
You can then also get fuel tank coating to seal inside to keep from continuing to rust
Several companies sell this I have an Eastwood catalog it is 2007 it shows a kit for motorcycles under $40 for tanks to 5 gallons has one can metal wash one can fast Etch and one container of sealer
But when all is said and done it is what fits your pocket book
Good luck
