1985 Honda 250r Atc *trx450r swingarm swap* Help-Info
Hello All.
I had came across a nice 85 Honda ATC 250r & picked it up as been looking for one for some time. Very Happy about it!!
I also picked up a 05 trx450r that had a bad motor so got a good deal on it.
Well I have them both sitting in my garage side by side, Now after about a month (lol) Im looking and noticing that the swing arms look almost the same (85 250r steel to 05 450r alum.) & how great it would be to swap the whole 450r rear end.
So I then had to google it, of course there are people out there doing the swap, Its just seems like every form I read I get some saying it works great, some saying it throw the shock geometry off making for a bad ride??
Well from what I came up with from just a few measurement with tape measure & both machines sitting side by side, It should be pretty much a direct fit with the 450r swinger adding about 1-1.5in in length. & the shock link is therefor 1-1.5in farther back than stock swinger.
I would like to swap to 450r swinger, bearing carrier, axle, hubs, caliper & still use stock shock.
I was hoping to get some Input and or info from anyone that's done the swap, also what links you used to get the right ride height.
Any Input Greatly Appreciated! Thanks For Looking!

I swapped a 85 trx 250 swingarm onto my 84 250 atc. only visible diff was the extra 2 inches on shaft. so I had to use the whole setup inside n out. I cut the battery box a little to allow for shock sitting further back. the one draw back is the brake cable is 2 inches short. from either bike so I'll have to go salvaging some time. I like the longer wheelbase cuz the atc is sitting under my golf cart. everything is interchangble
