I'm looking to buy an ATC and have found an '83 200X with
an '84 200S engine. What's the difference between these two
engines. Are they both 4 strokes? which is better?
Is this guy an idiot for swapping a 200X with a 200S?

The 200x engine has a manual gear box(Clutch Lever). The 200s has auto clutch(Just hit the foot lever and go). The X engine probably has more power, but that combo would make for a fun Trike.

Dude! My friend had one like that! it was great for bombing around on but was so beat that he junked it, i guess its the same motor with a tranny mod for the clutch on the 200x to operate manualy, and the kickstrter, but the 200x was so much better than his 200s it had disc breaks (worked on and off!) and full suspension, the setup with the auto clutch made riding more fun for him cause he was sick of clutch.

He was asking $1300 Canadian. About $900 US. But it wasn't finished yet. I think he had given up. I ended up buying an '82 250R only $900 Canadian runs great, lots of fun. I'm also looking at an '84 for 300 bucks, but needs a complete topend and fenders.

I just put an S in my X frame because I needed a different motor and I thought my young boys could ride it better with a auto transmission. Now all I need is a recoil starter for it. Anybody have one laying around or know where I can find one?

yeah i have a 200s motor in a 200x frame too but i need a recoil starter, ive been looking on ebay and they arre going for bout 50- 80 bucks so im looking around for a cheaper one

Go ahead and fork out the cash for a goki electric start. I put one on my 185s and I love it. At the time I really hated to spend the cash but it was the best thing I ever did to that engine. It really comes in handy when you are trying to diagnose starting problems. Instead of trying to look for the spark at the end of the wire while pulling the rope you just hit a little button. I have 3 recoil starter for 185s's but I don't want to part with them. Just wanted to post that to tease you guys. lol

Most of these guys covered the differences. The 200x is a way better frame setup, and the 200x engine has better power
The guy was not crazy, just lazy..[img]i/expressions/face-icon-small-happy.gif[/img] In my opinion The 250r, 350x, and 200x all were built to kick @$$ so you make them bare bones light and as fast as you can, no extras....like starters, auto, ect. If you can pick up a running 250R for cheaper that that 200x/200s setup, JUMP on it if you are looking to go fast. If you are pulling some good tight wooded trails with some steep hills go with a 4 stroke, dunes and good long flat stuff get a 2 stroke.
