Default BEWARE of Silverton CO Sheriff's

Now that Silverton allows riding atvs in town, the sheriff seemingly does what he can to discourage it by spending his time stopping atvs and writing $150+ tickets for no insurance or if 2 riders are on a ATV. During a recent trip we didnt get tickets, however pulled over several times by a sheriff with an attitude. We've been riding atvs in CO for over 20 years. We've been everywhere. Never an issue with having a passenger until now apparently if you drive through Silverton, CO at 5mph with a passenger they'll pull you over, warn or ticket you. Recently a Silverton CO OHV facebook page obtained and posted the full names of people the Silverton sheriff has ticketed in the last month which included, their citation, ticket amount and state of residence. We are not wreckless disrespectful riders. We pay $10 for each atv CO OHV permit every year. We wear helmets, we buy insurance, we are responsible and respectful of others, but apparently that's not good enough for Silverton, CO sheriff's. We will no longer be doing business in Silverton via ATV if it means our wives, girlfriends and under age children need their own atvs.

You should write this in a local newspaper, encourage others to vote with their pocket books.

Since posting this I've been informed that at least Hinsdale and San Juan counties have updated their OHV ordinances to say you can't have more people than what the OHV was designed for.

I've heard that many states are going that way. Unless it's an actual law they shouldn't be writing tickets for it. I'm fortunate in that my wife never wanted/wants to drive, so my last two were and next quad is going to be a 2 seater.
