Our 2018 Utah ATV trip.

Had a chance to get out to Utah for some, only in Utah, riding and scenery. This time we stopped for the night a couple times instead of driving through like last trip.
Parked with fellow diesels.

Rest area on way to ride the San Rafael Swell. Beautiful country.

Met up with Specta from the ATVConnection and rode with him and his friend, Kevin. Kevin's wife Lea rode with us too. Both were good riders.

Strong winds helped to keep dust down.

Great views around every corner.

Remains of an old miner's shack. Must have been tough people to live out there.

Steep trail up to abandoned mines.

Must have been fun hacking mines out of the rock. Was told that the miner was working on another mine that has been sealed up. He hit hydrogen sulfide gas and died. HS creates sulfuric acid in the lungs and causes you to suffocate.

Lea going down, Specta coming up.

Beautiful scenery.

We rode the Behind the Reef Trail into many canyons like this one. Tough, rocky, two tracks, with off cambers, switchbacks, and plenty of drop offs.

My trusty steed with Specta on his Brute Force.

Everywhere seems to be a fallen rock zone in The Swell.

A look back.

Seen better days.

Rock constantly changing and calving off.

We headed to a rented cabin in Marysvale, Utah to ride the Paiute Trail. This was a shot of riding towards the Fremont Trail to go down to Lime Kiln Canyon and Casto Canyon.

Neat rock formations along the way.

Volcanic rocks. Pumice and other stones.

We hit foliage season pretty good on this trip. Bright yellows from birch and aspen. Occasional maple tree with reds.

More interesting rock.

After going through canyons and in and out of washes it was stark to see how the bottom lands of the valleys look.

Interesting history. One story was about a gent named Erv Olsen. His horses got spooked by the trail and it ended up with him getting his legs run over by his own wagon. Lost both legs.
