new to racing

I was thinking about starting up racing this spring/summer. I'm only 16 but i've been riding for about 4 years. What kinds of racing is there in NW missouri? I know where i can race motocross, but i don't really like that kind of riding. Is racing really expensive, like buying a pretty good lt250r? I need some advice here.

You're in luck, good choice on looking at racing in the woods... There is an excellent harescramble series in Missouri. Very competitive, with usually over 100 ATVs showing up per event.
The 2001 schedule is being decided today and will be announced Monday.
There is also the HillbillyGP winter series. A less competitive, more fun series. There will be one event in Merwin, near Kansas City. See the website for details. Some of these races may have a motocross section, but are far more biased toward woods racing.
Racing is somewhat expensive, but doesn't have to be extremely expensive. Woods racing requires fewer mods than MX to be competitive. You can really save money by letting skill make up for equipment. Practice....
I'm not being biased here, but if you're planning on racing, do yourself a favor and buy a Honda.... 300EX (only if you're on a tight budget), 400EX or 250R. Depending on your skill level and 2 or 4 stroke preference.

I enjoy MX more than XC but the only racing that is setup in my area is XC.. Its still fun, but its not MX. And as my sig says, its all about how fast you want to spend! Last season I had little more than tires on my bike and i still managed to come in 3 of 8, running with modded EX's Banshees, Warriors, in an open amatuer class .. Many people look at racing as expensive.. But you dont have to have the fastest bike to have fun, or even to win for that matter.. XC is good in that
aspect..
