I have a Yamaha 2003 660 grizzly and i would like to learn the art of drifting.

Any one here know how to drift an ATV?

Well on an ATV it is usually called "sliding" and there is no secret to it...... find some nice loose gravel to practice on...... lean hard to the inside of the turn, punch the gas hard as you hit the apex of the turn and hang on.....

I'm not sure I'd want to be learning on it a huge 4x4 machine though where your body weight is not going to be enough to counter an sudden outside wheel grabbers.....

Crap, thats all i got. Also my tires are very knobby. Like about 1 inch ***** all over.

Well you can learn on what you have..... of course make sure it is in 2wd......

Actually the best place to learn might be in the snow or mud.....but loose gravel will also work...... slap it in 2wd and just practice sliding at low speeds...... as you get used to the feeling you will be able to move up to dirt....... I would think a 660 would have enough grunt to break the rear wheels loose..... just be careful and make sure you have a WIDE area to practice on...... you DO NOT want that rear outside wheel catching any "lip" or rock or stump...... otherwise you will be pitched off so quick you won't know what happened.

thats my problem,. i went to a place named 5 mile pass out here in utah and i tired drifting once but i couldnt tell if the inside wheels were coming of the ground or if it was the G force pushing on me and it felt like i was going to tip or both..

 

Yeah it is hard on a 4x4..... they are so heavy that your body weight is just not really enough to keep the machine from high-siding or two-wheeling....... IRS is even worse and nearly impossible to do unless you have perfect conditions.....

It is much easier on a 350-400 pound sport machine, then you can just hang off the inside and punch the gas......

Maybe the best thing is to wait for some mud or snow to get the hang of it....

 

Or buy a sport machine!!

here is a grizzly drfiting but i cant tell if its a 660 like mine or not. He does a pretty good job at it to.

I started out on a zuki 4x4 in 1988. I tried all the fun stuff and just got beat up. [img]i/expressions/face-icon-small-happy.gif[/img]
