Race gas and shock rebuilds...HELP
#1
Hey guys I need help finding some good race gas for my 250r. If you can give me some brand names and a web site or phone number that would be great. Dont tell me just VP or Klotz I need the exact type of gas and where to find it. I also need high octane 105 and up.
Also I have to have all three of my Works shocks rebuilt, should I send to works or....?
Any input would be greatly appreciated.

Send your shocks to Baldwin Motorsports in Ashtabula Ohio, phone number is 440-224-2734. They are a PEP shock service center and have been working with quad suspensions for a long time. And Mark Baldwin attends all the national races and puts money back into the sport by sponsoring Tim Farr. I have had several shocks revalved by them and are happy with the way they turned out. Do NOT send them to Pro Action Suspension, I have had problems with their work and I think it is because they mostly work on bike suspension.

Do you need race gas? If you don't need it, it will be a waste of money and can possibly cause lower performance...
For instance, when my 250R was bone stock a friend had some 114 octane for his SeaDoo HX modified race ski. He gave me some extra he had one day, so I put it in my R for grins. The engine wouldn't idle, skipped very badly in the lower and mid RPMs and ran about the same on top. It turned my mild all around engine into an all or nothing engine without any gains on the top.
As soon as I put regular fuel back into it, it proceeded to idle and run like it always had.
If you need the race gas, by all means get some. Leaded fuel will be fine. The only concern with running leaded fuel is that it can contaminate an oxygen sensor, which unless your 250R is fuel injected, it does not have.
I run CAM2 (Sunoco) purple 110, which can be bought from the pump around here for about $4/gal. I also get Phillips 66 B32 and B33 locally in 5 gal drums. They generally cost around $6/gal. The Phillips smells much better when you compare the two.
Here's a link to the Phillips66 race-gas page
Here's a link to Sunoco's (Cam2) website
If you plan on running enough, the best bet is to get a 55gal drum, you'll save quite a bit per gallon doing it this way, the drum can just be a pain.
Where to get it? It's hard to say, call some stations, or better yet call some local distributors, they should be able to guide you in the right direction, I buy my Phillips66 directly from the distributor in the area.
On the shocks, if you're serious about racing, have PeP or TCS rebuild them, you'll be much happier with their performance.
