13 Year Old in Schoolboy Class, which model?

Hello. My 13 year old son is interested in racing MX. From what I've read he would be in the 13-15 Schoolboy class. I believe it's limited to 200 two-stroke or 300 four-stroke. Any recommendations on which models to look at would be appreciated. What bikes are most of the riders on?

Thanks again,
Jim

Honda 250ex and Yamaha Blaster would be 2 good choices. Blaster is a little faster as its a 2 stroke and a little smaller and lighter. I would think it would be probably the fastest atv that would be in this class.

Thank you. Those are two that I was looking at but wasn't sure on the Blaster since it seems like it's been years since they quit producing them.

Yeah, Yamaha doesn't make a 2 stroke Blaster anymore. A few years ago, they reintroduced it as a 250cc 4 stroke and now call it a Raptor 250. Its not quite as fast as the 2 stroke version but would still be a good choice.

I still don't understand why they require such small size quads for 13-15 year olds. I got a Raptor 350 before I even turned 13. But anyway, It depends on how large your son is. A blaster is a good choice, light and lots of power, however it is quite small. If he is on the smaller side then this would be your choice, but if your son is bigger, id go with a different model. If he is larger you could either go for a Raptor 250, or as above said, a Trx 250. The Trx 250 is more reliable and better at racing than the Raptor. So if he's smaller, go for the blater, but if he's larger for his age go for the trx. Good luck

Not true! We've owned both a Raptor 250 and Honda TRX 250. The Raptor 250 is much better at racing than the Honda, and every bit as reliable.

My son's came up through the ranks, starting with 50cc, then 90cc, then 250cc, then 400cc, and finally 450cc ATVs. My oldest son started desert racing when he was 14, and was on a YFZ 450 by that time.
