Default BUYING MY FIRST ATV

I need some help on choosing what ATV to buy. I am looking at doing a lot of trail riding while I am here in Fl but when I move back to Cali I plan on goin to the dunes. I am currently looking at the Kawasaki KFX400 or the Honda EX400. Which one do you all think I should get or do you suggest something else and I am looking at spending around 5500-6000 for a brand new one. let me know. Thanks in adv

I am sure this is going to probably be a long posting. I would say if your a beginner Z400, if you want speed go for a Raptor 660R. Have you looked into the YFZ450 or Honda 450? THose are nice bikes as well? It also, depends on your size as well. The Bombradier is a nice bike as but big as heck. Z400 is a good trail bike and can be modded easily. You might have more fun ridding a faster 4 stroke on the dunes (YFZ450, TRX450, Raptor 660R, DS 650, PRed 500)? Are you sold on 4 strokes? A Banshee is a really nice duner! I would say the 4 strokes are all about rider preference. Go out and test a few out. If your about speed, try a Raptor or YFZ450. For the price your looking at the Kawisuzicat 400 is a nice choice. The new 450's are really nice and getting faster! Check out many of the other posts about details.

For that price range, go with the Predator.

I am 5' 9" and weigh about 135 lbs. I looked into the 450 and the guy a the dealer ship said the the YFZ450 wouldn't be to good for trail riding and my buddies keep suggesting the Honda 400EX. I like the kawasaki cuz it has reverse and I plan on having my son on it with me and incase I ever need it, it will be there for. I've rode a blaster and I like it but I am going to buy my wife that one and I want something so that when I show up with my buddies them fools ain't talking **** you know what i mean.

To tell you the truth you would fit well on most bikes. The kawisuzucat has really good handling. If you think you are one to like speed then I would say get the Raptor! I am fairly new to quad buying and I bought my wife a Blaster and I bought a Z400. I plan on giving my wife the Z400 in a couple of years and probably upgrading to something bigger for me. (but I am 6'3 240lbs) The Z400 fits me great and has lots of aftermarket goodies to play with. My wife loves my bike because it has reverse. The only thing i am kickin' myself in the rear is the Blaster is a 2 stroke so she got "the red sticker" which means we can only ride certain times of the year at certain places. That is something to think about as well. The Raptor 350 might be a good choice for her? I would suggest Z400 or KFX 400 all the way then. The price is good as well. Good luck on your purchase! Oh, don't forget to throw in a couple of goodies when making your deal (paddles, etc.)! It will save you money in the long run!

How long until you go back to Cali? If soon, you could go with a faster quad that would be better for the dunes. I know guys that ride the 450R on the trails and it does pretty good. Rips around the dunes great.
Predator is good. You would also like the Z400/FKX400. Both good on trails and fun in the sand.
Try to find somebody that has what you might be looking for and see of you can ride. That is the only real way to get a feel for the quad before you buy it. You can listen to everybody and get ideas, but you won't know what you like until you ride it.

Good Luck

I was convinced that I was going to get a 400ex when I was shopping for an ATV cause everyone that I ride with has one, well I choose the KFX and a year and a half later I am still happy and have no regrets for my decision. I catch crap for my decision from the guys I ride with, but I only catch it when I stop and wait for them to catch up to me
