I'm on this site with all kinds of ATV specs and I notice they get optimistic on the naming of a ATV in actual engine size. Here are some culprits.

450 Kodiac (421cc) Big diff.
450 foreman(433cc)
350 Rancher(329cc)
400 Eiger(376cc) Another big diff.
Arctic cat 300(280cc)
Artctic Cat 400(376cc)
500 Foreman(475cc)

I know part of the reason is just to round it off to a round number but some other models do not do it. For EX. a 660 Grizzly is a 660cc,a 220 Bayou is a 215cc and a Prairie 360 is a 362cc.

Just wondering how many cc off a manufacturers can be when naming a ATV before it's just plain false advertising?

Honda seems to be correcting themselves a little now. They call there 475cc Foreman a 500 yet they call there new 675cc Rincon a 680,why not just call it a 700 Rincon? Why quite now?


My Friend has a 05 500 Foreman and we where wondering why I can out run him and he uses less gas on long trips. He thought it was a 499cc like mine but it,s the Rubicon that is a 499cc not the Foreman.

 

Better yet, IF they want to call it a 500 then MAKE it 500cc's. Anything within 5cc's is OK with me but beyond that call it what it is.

Seems Polaris is going to tweak the SP"800" to bring it up to 795 and call it a special edition or limited, something like that.

 

another yamaha is the Wolverine 450 - 421 or the Raptor 700 - 686 not really all that much bigger than the 660 or the kawi Brute Force 650 - 633 yeah i could probably keep going, but I agree if you are going to call it something make it within atleast 5cc or what you call it

 

WOW I just noticed that now. The new 700 Grizzly is really a 686cc that only 26cc larger than the 660 Grizzly it replaced![img]i/expressions/face-icon-small-frown.gif[/img]

I also think they should not round off more than 5cc for it's name title.

I doubt it will ever be claimed as false advertising because along with the advertising is the actual specs sheet. So they are giving them big numbers to draw in people but they tell you the specs and cause the frustration inside and make you wonder how can they legally do that? They don't tell you and you sit at home for hours and get on the internet and ask people about it and you still can't figure it out! so finally you're just thinking about it and you end up with a gosh darn Aneurism. I'm with squeege. It really irks me to open a bag of chips and there are only 10 chips in the bag. I think it is all just some government mind games to keep the pubic guessing.
4 wheelers aren't the only ones that do this. Virtually all the motorcycles are rounded off. They have been doing this for years. Even the 5.0 Ford mustang was actually a 4.9 liter. The Camaro was a 5.0 and they didn't want Chevy taking all the glory.
