in a stright line the raptor will take out = modded 450s. belive it or not the raptor can put in better track times than the 450s if you just see who can run the fastest single lap but on avarage the 450s put way better times down.

I have ridden both 450s, honda and yamaha. both are very similar. honda has a reputation of being more durable, yamaha more flashy, and in my opinion a little faster but sacrificing durability. You can't go wrong with either. I just picked up a 08 yfz450se, im a Tennessee Vols fan so I like the orange, not broken in yet but first impression is good. I have to lean toward the yamaha. I used to ride an 02 r6. would buy a yamaha streetbike over a honda anyday for the reasons i already listed. the differences are so minute though it really could come down to the flip of a coin. as for the raptor700, it is a great bike intended for an entirely different use than the 450. one is a race bike the other is a practical bike that gives you similar performance without the drawbacks of a race bike. ie, no reverse, high rev engine = less longevity. a rider of your size should beat a 700raptor on a 450 9 of 10 times. it is 50 lbs lighter, has a longer rpm range to pull you. bottom line is a 700 uses 250cc more displacement to make up for less compression, 1 less cam, and less valves, less racy engine overall. not sure what octane gas a 700 uses but 450 uses 91 or higher stock. FYI i can wheelie and ride it 30 to 50 ft no problem 1st through 3rd gear with half throttle (i am breaking it in after all) pretty sure I could wind up like the chick on pg 11 of november's dirt wheels mag, with full throttle in 3rd gear.....on my a@@. good luck don't think you can go wrong with either
